Remember That Scene...
By PackerAaron
...in Ghostbusters, where Venkman (Bill Murray) asks Egon (Harold Ramis) "What have you got?" as they are faced with their impending doom in the form of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man? Do you remember Egon's response?
Sorry, Venkman. I’m terrified beyond the capacity for rational thought.
Well, that's me today.
Go Pack Go.

I usually agree with Bedard's prognostications..
--
Unless Brad Childress does something stupid - Mike McCarthy has outclassed him since the two arrived in the NFC North - then the combination of Jared Allen against Daryn Colledge, and Adrian Peterson against a soft Packers run defense, should make for an easy Vikings victory. Vikings 30, Packers 20.

Yeah, I have no confidence either. I am afraid to watch. If we had a solid O-Line I would feel okay. But ....
Well, worse case, we are 2-2. Not the end of the world either.
October 05, 2009 at 09:54 am
I feel the same. I'm not talking about it or posting about it. I want this so bad so I'm trying to think of something else.
October 05, 2009 at 10:02 am
For me, it's like worrying a cut on the roof of your mouth. You know you should leave it alone, that it won't get any better with attention, but you find yourself unable to stay away. I'm going to be a wreck by the time the game kicks off.
October 05, 2009 at 10:02 am
Anybody know of a setting that's a few decibles below 'mute'? Gruden will drive me insane if I actually leave the sound on. Brett Favre, Brett Favre, Brett Favre..... Ugh...I'm doing yard work until the game starts. No pre-game, sound off. My wife is banishing me to the basement (wise on her behalf) and I will be sleeping on the couch regardless of outcome. Did I mention I live in St. Paul, MN? I throw up in my mouth a little bit everytime I hear 'Favre'.
Interestingly enough, I only fear Peterson and Allen in this game. Go Pack!

Exactly, Franklin. Exactly.
October 05, 2009 at 10:22 am
I just wish the Vikings strengths didn't line up so well with the Packers' weaknesses. Adrian Peterson vs the Packer run defense and Jared Allen et all versus the Packer offensive line.
I really want this win. (and to see Favre hit the turf a few times)
October 05, 2009 at 10:26 am
damn guys. i'm all for staying realistic. we should talk about all the things the packers are doing poorly, all the things they need to do better than usual to beat the vikings, but on gameday, we're at least supposed to fake like we think the pack'll win.
so we have no evidence to believe the o-line will hold up, or that mccarthy will stick to the run long enough for it to pay off, or that we'll run an effective screen or two to keep the ends honest, or that our safeties will feel comfortable enough to avoid communication errors, or that our receivers will stop dropping balls.
but until about 11:30pm est - we operate on faith - as well as the knowledge that this team actually does have the talent to wipe the carpet with these purple panzies. our guys want it more than everyone, except maybe brent - which means he'll force throws. i say the pack has 3 int tonight. i say raji wreaks some havoc. i say the short passing game finally opens up.
we don't need it ALL tonight - we can wait to pound brent into retirement until he comes to lambeau - tonight we just have to make him reconsider it.
October 05, 2009 at 10:34 am
The Vikes are over-confident playing at home & with 'Lord Favre' at QB. ..... The Vikes have a game plan but don't realize that BF also has his own 'personal' game plan stuffed away somewhere in the vast open spaces of his brain............ BF's own personal game plan will be his undoing..... This is the way it has been going back to the last century......... Why would it change now ?

Charles Woodson, the Traveler. He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the NFC North, the traveler came as a large and moving Corner! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the Viking supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Pick Six! Many Vikings knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Metrodome that day, I can tell you!
October 05, 2009 at 10:45 am
joshy, you are absolutely right! I have to cheer my head off until 11:30, believing victory is inevitable!!
October 05, 2009 at 10:48 am
In all my years as a die-hard fan, this game is a first for me. I don't think I have ever wanted the Packers to win so bad. Obviously I always wanted them to win, but this is different. And for me I think the reason is Aaron Rodgers. He had to put up with so many unfair things and handled it with so much class that I feel emotionally invested...almost like a little brother entering his first boxing match. Anywyas...the odds are against us but here's to the Pack pulling one out!
October 05, 2009 at 10:49 am
yes, have some.
October 05, 2009 at 10:52 am
Woodson: Are you troubled by strange press conferences in the middle of the night?
Harris: Do you experience feelings of dread just before the start of the preseason?
Collins: Have you or your family ever seen a 40 year old quarterback that just won't stay retired?
Woodson: If the answer is 'yes' then don't wait another minute. Pick up the phone and call the professionals...
All: The Green Bay Packers.
Woodson: Our courteous and efficient staff is on call 24 hours a day to serve all your gunslinger elimination needs.
All: We're ready to intercept you.

Shootz - no Tramon in that mix?
October 05, 2009 at 10:54 am
matthew - that is part of why i think these guys might step their game up this week beyond other games - i think they really like aaron, and i think they really want to help him make a fool out of brett. example #1 - week 1 last year.

Shootz - brilliant.
October 05, 2009 at 11:02 am
This game will be close no matter what. If this game is lost before the 2 min. break, I won't post for a week or 2. (Well, if we lose I probably won't post for a while, so...)
October 05, 2009 at 11:10 am
These Ghostbuster references are hilarious everyone. Thanks so much for making me chuckle on a gloomy day.
October 05, 2009 at 11:13 am
Vikes, 27-24 on a Longwell FG. But I pray I’m wrong.
I am going into seclusion and self-imposed silence to properly prepare for this game. Starting now…
October 05, 2009 at 11:17 am
I actually have a good feeling about this game. McCarthy is what, 5-1 versus Childress? That's not by accident, and it's not solely because we've had better players all that time, because I don't believe that's true.
As long as McCarthy remembers that he can win this game on the ground, we'll be ok.

Completely agree bucky, and it's starting to piss me off how the national media (and Greg freekin' Bedard) have this chalked up as an easy Vikings victory.

I ain't afraid of no Favre.
If Nick Barnett says he has a special feeling about today, that's good enough for me.
My 10 year old will be wearing his "My Favorite Teams Are The Packers And Whoever's Playing The Vikings" t-shirt tonight. It has special, special meaning this year.
October 05, 2009 at 11:43 am
Have no fear my son. For all things must pass away. There are watershed moments that redefine our future. The old hero Qb is replaced with the new upstart. The team is rallying behind their new leader...the new face of the team.
If there is one guy that deserves this win more than any other, it's Aaron Rodgers. He has taken the brunt of Favre's little dance and has never NEVER said or done anything that would embarrass his team or himself.
I don't care if you love or hate TT. I don't care if you love or hate Favre. There is one fact that we can all agree on. Aaron Rodgers is a class act and he is the new leader of OUR team.
It time to rally around him and usher in a successful new era of Packer football.
October 05, 2009 at 11:44 am
Got my 6 pack ready to go into my Packers mug, a #12 jersey, an empty house, and a head full of confidence that we can win this game. What more do you need???
.
Let them doubt...let's go back to being the underdogs and proving everyone wrong.

I've been trying to Tweet Berrian, McKinnie, Harvin, and Rice today to get into their heads. Everyone should do it just for fun.

Maybe Brett Favre will be our version of the Manchurian Candidate? What should we call him, the Mississippean Ingrate?
October 05, 2009 at 12:22 pm
Ok, so this game, in the long run, means little if the Packers lose. Before Favre went to the Vikings, a lot of people said the two teams were very similar and had about an equal shot at winning the division. To me that says a split series, with the home team winning each. I even had it marked on my schedule that way on the day the schedule was released.
---
Now, I fully and completely hope I am wrong, but really, if the Vikings win at home against a division opponent, is it that big a deal? No, not really. The only point at which I would be impressed with the Vikings beating the Packers would be in Lambeau or in the playoffs. That's it. Too bad the media won't agree with me.
October 05, 2009 at 12:54 pm
Imagine the blow to the Queens if we beat them AND it's because of Favre's performance. We can give the whole Favre locker room collapse a headstart.
If we lose it's not a big blow to us, but it can be a massive boost and make the rest of the season a lot easier.
October 05, 2009 at 01:01 pm
Id like Al Harris to become reacquainted with Adrian Peterson's knee.
"40 years of darkness, the dead rising from the grave, Favre on the vikings, dogs and cats living together. MASS HYSTERIA!"
October 05, 2009 at 01:08 pm
So just when I start to feel better, Dilfer says if Favre doesn't do anything stupid the Queens could win by 3 touchdowns. Wait, if Favre doesn't do anything stupid...I DO feel better
October 05, 2009 at 01:09 pm
Remember in the 80s when the Packers were horrible? Forrest Gregg was the head coach and the Bears were Superbowl champions.
But when we would play them, anything could happen. The Packers played tough in those games. That's gonna happen tonight, only the teams are much closer. In fact, I'd say the Packers have MORE talent. It's just that we've got a weakness, the offensive line.
But they'll play better than you think.
I also think Capers will have something for Favre. As will Favre's former teammates.
October 05, 2009 at 01:10 pm
Favre is going to feel like the floor of a taxi cab.

NICE Franklin.
October 05, 2009 at 01:49 pm
My nightmare is this:
1. Kampman and Poppinga must keep AP inside the ends.
2. Hawk and Barnett must fill the interior holes. Also do some run blitzes to force AP to go deeper before heading toward the goal line.
3. The O line must play beyond their ability. If they force the FB and TE to be blockers, and MM changes the Game Plan to accomodate, it will not be pretty.
4. The Marshmallow man must be toated in the first Offensive drive.
October 05, 2009 at 01:49 pm
My fear, the Packers will take this too casually or get spooked by the madness that is the Hump. They have to know this and the Lambeau game will be the ones that will form their own chapter in Packer's history and won't be forgotten. My wish, they take up the cause and play like champions for all sixty minutes. We as fans can do nor more than wait and watch. Rodgers asked for fan support going into this game. We ask that the players reciprocate. Guard the legacy.

We'll get through it Aaron! Go Pack (London UK Packer Fan)

Holly - Williams is Winston.
--
Tramon Williams: Hey, Chuck? Do you remember something in the bible about the last days when Favre would rise from retirement?
Charles Woodson: I remember Lombardi 7:12... 'And I looked, and the Gunslinger played at home in the Metrodome, and behold there was a great media storm, ESPN became insanely irritating, and Gruden could not be silenced.'
Williams: 'Jerseys burned and the skies fell'.
Together: Judgement day.
Woodson: Well, every NFL team has its own myth about the end of the world.
Williams: Myth? Charles, has it ever occurred to you that maybe the reason we've been intercepting so many balls lately is cause Favre IS rising from retirement?
Woodson: ... how about a little music?
[Ecto-1 pulls up next to Barnett's SUV and Barnett scares them with his horn].
October 05, 2009 at 02:07 pm
A+, Shootz. Bravo.
October 05, 2009 at 02:07 pm
Holy Lombardi, Shootz...you win.
October 05, 2009 at 02:14 pm
what the hell? finally turned on the tv. realize what you guys were talking about the national media - packers basically have no chance according to nfl live. trey wingo just said that the last time a packer quarterback non named favre was Mike Tomczak.... WHAT!?
did he miss week 1 last year?
somehow i doubt majik never beat the vikings...
fucking morons.
October 05, 2009 at 02:19 pm
I'm starting to get worried i hope the packers are ready PLEASE let them be ready
October 05, 2009 at 02:20 pm
Joshy, I was at a sports bar with no audio and I could tell how bad it was. We need to shut these people up. Seriously.
October 05, 2009 at 02:27 pm
If we knock Favre out of the game, then even if we lose, it won't be "Favre beat Rodgers." Favre also values The Streak more than he wants a Superbowl ring.
Not saying to take cheap shots. But definitely saying: take shots!
Capers is gonna be bringing some Biblical shit. Dogs and cats living together.
October 05, 2009 at 02:37 pm
AndrewInAtlanta - You left out part of what Dilfer said: If Favre doesn't play stupidly, if Peterson doesn't fumble the ball, if the defense doesn't make mistakes and if the special teams doesn't give up their obligatory 1 touchdown per game, the Vikes should win by 3 TDs.
---
Basically, there's no way the Packers beat the Vikings. The Vikings can only beat themselves. He really wanted to jump on the Favre bandwagon hardcore, but couldn't help but hedge his bets. I wanted to punch him in the face.
October 05, 2009 at 02:46 pm
If Dilfer is rooting for you you know you're doing something wrong. Worst on ESPN and that's saying something.
October 05, 2009 at 03:29 pm
Jayme, you are right. I was just trying to be brief (with an anti-Favre bias). I can't concentrate any longer. Get this game started!
October 05, 2009 at 04:33 pm
I really think the Packers are a better team. They have more talent overall. The Queens have a better RB and a very good defensive line. That's about it.
The only problem with the Pack is their offensive line. "Smaller, quicker." Maybe that'll pay off on the carpet.
October 05, 2009 at 04:53 pm
On the way home from work just now, Doug Gottlieb (ESPN Radio) had on Wayne Larrivee and then the Vikings' announcer. Larrivee basically said all the right things- it's gonna be a battle, the Packers have to find a way to stop Adrian Peterson, etc. Vikes' cocky little shitstain announcer says the Packers have no chance; GB has no offensive line and ADP goes off for 170+.
I want someone to record Larrivee's dagger call tonight.
