Randall Cobb Practices for First Time Since Being Placed on Injured Reserve

Wednesday marked the first time Cobb has practiced in any capacity since reportedly breaking his leg earlier this season.

From Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporter Tom Silverstein:

While most definitely a step in the right direction, simply taking part in individual drills in a practice setting does not necessarily mean Cobb will be ready to suit up on Sunday as the Packers take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in Green Bay.

Not that the possibility of Cobb returning can be ruled out, but as little as two weeks ago, Cobb was not cleared to run, let alone practice.

More than likely, Cobb will be no more than a listed a limited practice participant when the Packers release their official injury report later Wednesday afternoon.

What will be more telling than the limited information available at this moment is if Cobb is able to take part in team drill (which aren't open to the media) and how he progresses as it gets later in the week.

Cobb is still listed on the team's short-term injured reserve, and before he plays, the team would have to activate him and clear space on their 53-man roster, either by releasing a player or placing another one on injured reserve.

There's no doubt that a healthy Cobb would benefit a Packers offense, especially a unit that's also hoping Aaron Rodgers returns soon as well.

More will be learned later Wednesday afternoon after head coach Mike McCarthy and perhaps Cobb meet with the local media to discuss the wide receiver's situation.

Glad to see he is practicing again.

'IF' The Packers were able to get to the playoffs, and 'IF' we were to get Rodgers and Cobb back. That would be such a huge lift for this team.

Just combining Rodgers with Lacy will have a huge impact, and then to throw in Cobb. The offense could be scary good.

A lot of if's but, it would really have a huge impact.

Can't argue with that. Cobb's presence makes Lacy even more dangerous.

And it looks like I'm right.

Dude just started RUNNING this week.

No way he plays v Pitt.

Also looks like no 12 this week.

I guess Cobb might be able to play v the Bears if Flynn can pull out another one... maybe.

YEah! You said he wouldn't play again.

"He broke his freakin leg"

No he fractured his tibia. There is a significant difference between a break and fracture, troll trollington.

No there isn't. A "break" is a colloquial (informal) word for a fracture.

"He broke his freakin leg" is the exact same as "he fractured his freakin leg"

you're thinking about the differences between a "complete fracture" and an "incomplete fracture"

Fractures can be compound (bone protrudes thru the skin), displaced fractures and stable fractures. Displaced means the 2 ends of the bone don't align and the bones have to be realigned. Stable or Non-displaced the bone stays aligned but the fracture is fairly deep into the bone. Hairline is a small crack obviously.

Rodgers has a non-displaced or stable fracture. But you are correct in that a break and a fracture are the same. One is a lay term one is a medical term.

Bears losing this week would not benefit the Packers. The Packers need to win out regardless.

The only way the Bears losing this week benefits the Packers if the Packers lose. That's the only way it matters to the Packers.

Funny how things change. So many people had this team dead in the water a few weeks ago. Can't win without Rodgers, defense can't make plays, special teams suck and fire everyone. It may change again with one loss and it'll all start up again. I hope the Bears and Packers both win, look out week 17, it will be FUN.
