Railbird (As Usual) Nails It

Great, great post from Brian over at Railbird Central regarding the Scouting Combine and it's overblown importance. I would opine further but Brian absolutely has this one covered.

UPDATE: Another great piece about the dangers of falling in love with a players numbers at the Combine from Thomas George over at NFL.com. George points to the Jets' choice of Vernon Gholston with the sixth overall pick after Gholston's stock shot up after putting up amazing numbers at the Combine.

Just remember this when you're watching the NFL Network's 25 hours of Live Programming. None of this really matters. Oh alright - it matters. A bit. But not nearly as much as if these kids can play the game of football.

Brian is right. It's something to fill the void until FA's start to sign and the draft. It's still fun to watch how the numbers are played.

Could not agree more. Until they start putting a bench press on the 50 yard line during games, it means nothing. And 40 times? What was Jerry Rice's 40 time? Exactly.

My favorite workout drill in the NFL Combine has to be the Gauntlet for WR/TE. It is definitely the most entertaining part of the whole combine.
