Quarless Activated, Perry Placed On Injured Reserve

The Packers announced two roster moves this afternoon, including having to place their first round pick on IR for the second year in a row.

From the Packers:

The Green Bay Packers activated TE Andrew Quarless from reserve/physically unable to perform and placed LB Nick Perry (wrist) on injured reserve. The transactions were announced Wednesday by Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations Ted Thompson.

According to the Green Bay Press Gazette's Rob Demovsky, Perry's surgery on Tuesday, which was first reported by TMJ4's Lance Allen, was to repair a ligament injury in the rookie linebacker's left wrist.

The Packers will move forward with Erik Walden, rookie Dezmon Moses and the recently activated Frank Zombo at outside linebacker. The team is also dealing with the possibility of being without Clay Matthews for a game or two after Matthews suffered a hamstring injury against the Arizona Cardinals last Sunday.

As for Quarless, it will be interesting to see what he is able to contribute. The third year tight end out of Penn State was having a good year in 2011 and looked to be one of the team's most improved players before going on injured reserve after suffering a brutal knee injury in last year's regular season game against the New York Giants.

I'm guessing it was the lingering knee problem that contributed to the surgery-now decision. Quarless was a pretty good blocker and will give defenses another wrinkle to deal with

I thought how "two year contract" was more like a one year deal with the option for a second year?

Actually my understanding is that it *WAS* "God's Gift" coming out of college, until people started talking about how obnoxious that was, and then Quarless added the apostrophe S on to it.

To be fair, I also understand that Quarless never meant it to be "god's gift", but then, that could just be PR/damage control at work.

Or, I have the story all wrong.

They're not letting Finley walk for oft injured Quarless. Not to mention he may not be the same player after the that brutal knee injury. Don't get your hopes up.

It would be interested to see how many people would of thought that Zombo, Walden, Brad Jones and Lattimore all made this team this year. I know I was thinking that Zombo, Jones and Walden were all goners going into the preseason. You can never predict how your team looks at the beginning of the season and then at the end of the season. I hope Zombo comes back like Walden and makes a name for himself. Enjoy the by week. Go Pack Go. Get healthy.

Quarless picked up his blocking last year and has good speed and hands for TE. Finley is the Manny Parra of the Packers, Parra has a Sandy Koufax arm and a Forrest Gump control tower. Most surprising to me is the level of production from DJ Williams, he was consistently praised by the coaching staff in the pre-season and by McCarthy again recently but has had virtually no production, like Finley his drops are right in the hands on the numbers. Ryan Taylor looks like just a guy from scrimmage. Someone better step up soon if they want to dump Finley.

I wouldn't expect much of anything from Quarless for several weeks at least. I mean having been out so long he has no chemistry with Aaron Rodgers. And as we all know, that can take months, sometimes years, to get right ;)

I, Myself, firmly believe that Quarless has everything needed to be a welcome addition this year and into the future. He has everything that Finley has plus he has the motive to succeed.

If the knee injury did in Finley, i'm not sure how much to expect from Quarless.

If B.B. misses time, perhaps Q and his badass blocking will be utilized in his absence.
