Q&A With Lawrence Guy

Guy: "My strength is my attitude. Also my ability to listen, read (offenses) and my keenest sense and my redirection and explosion off the ball."

Here's the transcript of the press conference of Packers seventh round draft choice Lawrence Guy––a defensive lineman from Arizona State–– from when Cheesehead TV attended the NFL Combine...

Q: Talk about the long road it was to get here (overcame dyslexia).
A: I feel happy. I've been training a long time to do this. I've been home like two times in three years because all I do is train. I am happy with what is going on and excited about these surroundings.

Q: Ever doubt you'd get this far?
A: I always just wanted to do the best I could do. Wherever it took me, I was happy with because I did my best. But it took me here so I am more excited.

Q: How would you describe your career at ASU?
A: I feel like I played at a high level, that I accomplished everything I could have at Arizona State. I did my best, I mentored the younger players, so I felt like I did everything in my power to do.

Q: What are the strengths of your game?
A: My strengths? My strength is my attitude. Also my ability to listen, read (offenses) and my keenest sense and my redirection and explosion off the ball. Everything that makes me me on the field, it's going full speed all the time.

Q: Weakness?
A: I have no weaknesses I need to work on at all.

Q: Do you fit in the 4-3 or 3-4?
A: I fit wherever a coach wants me to play. I'll get it done.

Q: You pass rush better? Run stopper?
A: Whatever the coach wants me to be. You need a run stopper, I'll be that guy. Pass rusher, I'll be that guy. No matter what happens, I'll work my hardest to do it.

Q: Why did you leave school early?
A: It was a hard decision, but I accomplished everything I wanted to do at Arizona State. I talked to my family, friends,
my teammates, my coaches and thinking for weeks and months about it, I made my decision. I told my coaches and they all wished me best of luck and I am here now.

Q: What accomplishments are you talking about?
A: I feel like my goals was to be the best player I could be at Arizona State and I reached all those goals at ASU. The team was behind me, I was a leader for my teammates, and that's what I wanted to do, and I felt it was my time to go.

"I have no weaknesses I need to work on at all."

Except maybe some arrogance...

I think the guy just has a 'get it done' mentality, speaks like a soldier who won't make excuses. I don't know, hard to tell if it's arrogance without hearing his actual voice.

He'll quickly learn, when Sitton beastmodes his ass, that he has some areas to improve on.

Awesome draft! DJ Williams will be the steal of the draft at TE. I also think DJ Smith will become a solid ILB.

After watching an interview with Guy on youtube it appears that he has overcome two very debilitating disabilities. It didn't appear that he was arrogant, just confident because of what he has had to overcome.

That said I think he will be a project that will take a year or two to develop because of his aptitude. If it takes him twice as long to learn the playbook, and they don't even get the playbook because of the stupid lockout, it's going to be difficult for him to stand out right away.

Looks like a promising pick.

I've read some draft publications that had a 3rd round grade on Guy, why did the Packers get him in the 7th? Did he have a bad pro day or a bad combine or is it because of his disabilities?

Q: Weakness?
A: I have no weaknesses I need to work on at all.

I'm hoping this answer was the result of being excited about being drafted in the NFL, because there is a huge difference between confidence and conceited

I bet Trgovac will be able to fix that very quickly

I had him in my mock draft for the CHTV Draft guide and like most observers, felt he had the talent to go in the first four rounds.

I called it a steal last year when the Packers got C.J. Wilson so late. I won't quite say the same thing here, but I really like the pick.

Theres an obvious theme to his answers but i wouldnt call it arroagnce. Look no farther than gabe carimi. Its simply an interview startegy to appear confident.

I almost like that this guy came out as a junior because it could mean we havent aeen quite what this guy is capable of yet. He certainly has the physical tools.
