Q&A With C.J. Wilson

Wilson: "A lot of guys, even when they come over from other teams, the free agents and practice squad players, they say that Green Bay's the best."

I recently had the opportunity to interview defensive lineman C.J. Wilson for an article appearing in the upcoming Maple Street Press 2011 Packers Annual. Parts of the interview didn't make the article. So rather than allow the unused pieces lay on the cutting room floor, I thought I'd share a few of the Wilson's responses here at Cheesehead TV...

Cheesehead TV: Can you reflect upon going from a seventh-round draft choice to starting in the Super Bowl? Is that almost hard to believe?

C.J. Wilson: Every morning I wake up, I thank God for giving me the opportunity. Like you said, I look back on the season and am grateful for the opportunity.

CHTV: One of the players that stepped in because of injuries this past season was fellow defensive lineman Howard Green. How well did he do for the Packers?

C.W.: He did a wonderful job. I remember when he first got there, because he was released by the Jets and then was playing against the Jets that Sunday, so he did a great job for us. He's a great teammate. He worked hard every day, and he was a great addition to our whole team.

CHTV: Is it nice to play for an organization that likes to keep the players they draft, develop them, extend their contracts?

C.W.: It's a great organization. I love Green Bay. I haven't been nowhere else yet, but if it's better than Green Bay, it must be (good). All I know is that a lot of guys, even when they come over from other teams, the free agents and practice squad players, they say that Green Bay's the best. I'm blessed to be there.

CHTV: How would you categorize the job Ted Thompson has done drafting guys and acquiring guys?

C.W.: You've seen just how this season and these last couple seasons, and if you haven't, they're pretty good seasons. They do a great job. I know they're going to do a great job next year and have another great year coming.

I like C.J. and hope he can be a big contributor for years to come. We may need him to.

And what's the deal Brian, you only give the CHTV faithful the scraps from the M.S.P. cutting room floor? For shame.
