Point of Veau: No Longer Can Fuzzy Show Off His Ring

It's unfortunate that Fuzzy will no longer be able to bring the simple joy to Packers fans when he would show off his Super Bowl ring for nearly every picture he posed.

By now you've probably heard the news that Lombardi-era Packer Fuzzy Thurston had his Super Bowl rings seized by the government in order to pay off $1.7 million in back taxes.

It's an unfortunate situation. Despite his legendary status as a member of five NFL championship teams and the first two Super Bowls while with the Packers, he's subject to the same rules as anyone else and has to pay his debts.

Through social media, many have suggested that a Packers fan buy his Super Bowl II ring that will be auctioned off on Aug. 4, and return it to Thurston. Former Packers beat writer Greg Bedard proposed that Brett Favre buy Thurston's ring to give back to him as a means of getting back in the good graces of Packers fans.

I thought the saddest part of the whole situation was the simple joy Thurston brought to Packers fans when he would make sure to show off his Super Bowl ring in nearly every picture he took with fans.

I've had the opportunity to meet Thurston a couple times back when he owned Fuzzy's #63 Bar and Grill in Green Bay including this picture taken a few years ago...

Unless someone graciously steps up, buys and returns the ring to Fuzzy, it's unfortunate scenes like this one won't continue to play out.

This is a good candidate for a Kickstarter campaign.

Well, while it's a shame that such an important personal memento such as a SB ring(s) be taken away from someone...

Fuzzy, pay your taxes. 1.7 mil doesn't just happen overnight.

Tough crapola, dude. Fuzzy made poor choices. He must now pay for them. In no way does he deserve to have his ring(s) bought by strangers and given back to him. Time to pay the piper.

If I had an extra 1.7 laying around, I'd buy it for him. ESPECIALLY if I was Brett.

Aaron Rodgers should buy the ring and give it to Fuzzy. If Favre did it, everyone would know it was just a phoney PR move.

Someone should have told him about the double Irish loophole, it works for Microsoft, Google, and GE.

Wow... Great perspective! When I saw that picture, it sorta wanted to make me cry. But you did a good job of adressing both sides. Unfortunatly, you can't mess with the IRS.
