IF such a trade were to happen, wouldn’t the Packers be standing on the point that Peppers would suddenly become a DE?
At one time, Peppers was considered a Phenom of sorts, when it comes to describing any NFL player, period.
Still, I jus don’t see it happening. JAYME pretty much nailed it.

I don’t know if that would delay the talk. If he said that, everybody would be saying “Kampman is only playing because he has a contract.” or “Kampman don’t want to be here”. IMO he’s better of giving the doubt of his unsettlement than the sureness of it.

Kampman could have settled the whole thing as soon as the 3-4 was announced by saying “I’m not sure what to expect. I honestly am not thrilled about it, but I’m under contract for a year so I’ll do my best and we’ll see what happens”. That would have put the whole thing to rest before it ever became a story.
As much as I have loved Kampman, the team can’t let the negative effects on one individual affect the decision making for the best of the team, both short term and long term.

If you guys who want Peppers instead of Kampman had the chance to watch him game in and game out in Carolina you would have a different perspective. The guy has all the physical abilities in the world and couples it with ABSOLUTE ZERO passion and intensity. Anyone who says Peppers is good against the run simply hasn’t seen him play. Run away from him and he can chase you down, yes. But run right at him and and you can have a field day

Yeah, but at LB we don’t know who’s better, we can only speculate and project. And we need to remember that this defense, at least for this year, will be hybrid. There will be a lot of 4 lineman on the field.

Wow, Aaron. You really surprised me. IMO, Peppers is way better as a pass rusher than Kampman. And as a DE. If I had a franchise and had to choose 1, I would go with Peppers. I agree Kampman is more consistent, though

That being said, we just cannot trade Kampman. He’s more than a pass rusher. He’s the soul of our D. He’s the sure thing when everything else fails. He’s the average joe that suceeds in the nfl. The ultimate Green Bay Packer.

As for my contention above – yes, leagues better as an overall player. Has Kampman ever pulled the disappearing act Peppers did two years ago? Peppers best is much better than Kampman’s, but it’s the same the other way all over his game. I’d much rather stick with Kampman.

“Leagues better”? As a person, maybe. Aaron’s work with the tornado victims from his hometown was inspirational. As a player, you’re crazy. Peppers is a dominant pass rusher, and much better against the run. Kampman is an effort pass rusher, whose sack numbers are more due to KGB being on the other side and his great hustle. Seriously, take a look at Kampman’s numbers when KGB’s been out.

I don’t really see the Kampman for Peppers trade happening. Even if Thompson was open to paying Peppers franchise money and even if Carolina was willing to let him go, I’ve heard rumors that Peppers and Trgovac didn’t get along well. If your former coordinator didn’t like you (or you didn’t like your former coordinator) something tells me that there won’t be a reunion on a new team.

That’s not a TT-type trade. Why would he swap one unproven 3-4 player for another in the same conference, and for a higher payout? A more likely TT scenario would be to trade Kampy to Buffalo for a 1st or 2nd round draft pick. The Packers seem very high on Jeremy Thompson, who’s down to 260 lbs. this year, and by all reports seems to be well-suited to the new position. Thompson, though unproven, may be the long-term answer at LOLB anyway. Kampman’s in a contract year, which will probably lead up to his last lucrative NFL contract. He has every right to be concerned about transitioning to a new position after 7 years of experiencing a lot of success at his former position. But for both parties’ sake, they need to get this figured out quickly, one way or the other.

I appreciate that Kampman’s probably the kind of guy who wouldn’t try and force the Packers’ hand via the media, whether that’s badmouthing the new defense or demanding a trade. He could be silent towards the media because he doesn’t want to put himself in a position where he does either of those things or he could be silent because he hasn’t quite made up his mind yet what he wants. If the 3-4 really is the best thing for the Packers and he can eventually make the adjustment to being a stand-up player then Green Bay could still be the best place for Kampman. Whatever happens, though, I’m pretty confident that he’s classy enough not to do battle with the front office through the newspapers and blogs like certain other players have chosen to do.
