Packers vs. Bears Game Predictions from CheeseheadTV.com

The CheeseheadTV.com pundits give their predictions for this Sunday's upcoming Packers - Bears game.

GAME PREDICTIONS Week 1: Green Bay Packers vs. Chicago Bears
Name Record To-Date This Week's Pick Score Prediction
Aaron Nagler 0-0 Green Bay Packers 34-17
The Packers could pull a concession worker out of the stands and Aaron Rodgers would throw it to him for 100 yards and a touchdown. The Bears will move the ball on the ground. The Packers will score points, lots of them, through the air.

Adam Czech 0-0 Green Bay Packers 30-20
With Letroy Guion and Datone Jones suspended (and Morgan Burnett possibly missing the game with a calf injury), the Bears will be able to move the ball. But the Packers' obvious overall talent advantage will eventually kick in and Green Bay will start the season with a win for the first time in a while.

Jersey Al Bracco 0-0 Green Bay Packers 38-13
Jordy Nelson or no Jordy Nelson, the Packers offense has too many horses for a Bears defense almost unanimously considered poor at best. The Bears will be better coached on offense this season, but it's still Jay Cutler. Enough said.

Alex Tallitsch  0-0 Green Bay Packers 38-22
Packers win bigger than the scoreboard shows. Bears get a garbage touchdown on special teams late.

Andrew Garda 0-0 Green Bay Packers 21-7
The Bears are in bad shape. Offensively it's a problem of not enough weapons - you have to like Matt Forte, Alshon Jeffery and to a lesser extent, Martellus Bennett, but if you can slow Jeffery, who else to they have. And the defense is a mess, especially the secondary. If you were going to start the season without Jordy Nelson, this is a good matchup to do it with.

Cory Jennerjohn 0-0 Green Bay Packers 31-16
Eddie Lacy will punish Chicago for so long that the Bears’ front seven will become gun shy in the second half. The only way the Bears can compete in this game is if they play completely perfect. Jay Cutler won’t let that happen.

Jason Perone 0-0 Green Bay Packers 27-14
Many are talking about a Packers blowout win but a road win at Chicago is always a tall task.  Jay is Jay and the Packers defense takes advantage.  Matt Forte puts up good numbers as the Packers defense struggles to stop the run, but Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense more than make up for it.  The Packers get their first opening day win since 2011.

Jay Hodgson 0-0 Green Bay Packers 28-24
John Fox will have his ragtag roster of Bears ready to play, giving the Packers more of a challenge than many expect. The Packers will still be searching to overcome the loss of Jordy Nelson.

Jayme Snowden 0-0 Green Bay Packers 34-17
My heart wants to say the Packers will score a lot more, but hard to tell exactly how the return of Jones and Cobb's injury will affect the offense. Heart, and most prognosticators predict that the Bears will be dreadful this year, but watching the Packers defense in the preseason makes me think the Bears will find a way (running the ball) to score some points. Won't be close, and it shouldn't be.

Jeff Albrecht 0-0 Green Bay Packers 34-13
The Verizon are in turmoil new defense new offense the same all Jay Cutler. The Packers will be on a roll and wanting to change the trend of losing their last three opening day game. Aaron Rodgers has a mastery over the Bears and will continue today in convincing fashion.

Mike Reuter 0-0 Green Bay Packers 27-23
This is one of the toughest games to predict. Could be 40-0, could be a close game. I think the Packers struggle a little and pull out a close win

Robert Olson 0-0 Green Bay Packers 28-17
Even without Jordy Nelson, the Packers will be productive on offense versus the newly-installed Vic Fangio defense, and the Packers' defense shouldn't have many problems against Jay Cutler.

Thomas Hobbes 0-0 Green Bay Packers 27-17
A tradition from ALLGBP.com, I will be predicting a Packers win every week of the season.  While maybe less credible in 2013 without Aaron Rodgers, this game shouldn't be in question.  The Packers are better in every aspect save run defense (and not by much) and at the end of the day Jay Cutler will find a new and interesting way to lose and infuriate Bears fans

Wisconsin Rob (Strupp) 0-0 Green Bay Packers 31-10
Offense clicks early, defense does enough against a bad Bears offense

Zach Kruse 0-0 Green Bay Packers 38-20
The Bears are a great unknown, but this much is obvious: The talent gap is substantial, especially at QB. Same script, different year.

"With Letroy Guion and Datone Jones suspended (and Morgan Burnett possibly missing the game with a calf injury), the Bears will be able to move the ball. "

This sentence insinuates that losing Datone Jones weakens the defense.

Funny.

Even though I'm not a huge fan of this year's d-line group, even I can see that Daniels/Raji/Pennel > Daniels/Guion/Jones.

Maybe Pennel is as good or better than Jones, or Guion better than Raji. Fine. But unless you expect the starting D-line to play every single defensive snap, you might want to consider the depth at the position. Losing depth certainly does weaken the defense.

Both Boyd and Gaston are also better than Jones.

The Packers have 5 players (all better than Jones) they can rotate in across the line. They'll be fine.

How many snaps would Jones have played (as the 6th d-lineman)? Maybe 10? That's probably a stretch, actually.

In fact - I think Neal with his hand in the dirt is also better than Jones.

Losing Jones is like losing Banjo.

Jones has been a big disappointment for sure, but I think he's a little better than you do. Jones actually played more than 30% of the defensive snaps last year, and towards the end of the season the coaches used him far more than Pennel, who finished the season having played only 14% of the snaps.

Jones found a bit of a niche as an inside rusher on passing downs. He was really used as a rush tackle, not an end, on most of his snaps. I think he fits that role better than a lot of those other guys. Jones led the team in pressures per snap at 1 per every 23.4 snaps.

I think he'll play way more than 10 snaps per game. Last year, he averaged 25.

"Jones led the team in pressures per snap at 1 per every 23.4 snaps."

Thank You for finding that stat. While I understand that some fans aren't happy w/ Datone's play, I think its instructive to remember why he was drafted. I don't believe for a second it was to be a force as an everydown DL. That's what you hope he develops into, but honestly he was drafted for his interior pass rush ability. Fans rave about Daniels cuz he's the 4th rd pick who made good and overachieved. But Datone was a consistent pass rush threat last year. He didn't necessarily get the numbers in sack, but in pressures and disruptiveness Datone was really good.

It would be great if Datone became a JJ Watt Jr, and dominates against the run, but even if he doesn't, he's on track to be a successful draft pick. Datone's role on D should only increase this year. Its just his 3rd season and its not at all unusual for DL not to reach their full potential till yr 3 or 4. I will be very interested in watching his play this year.

It would really help if he were healthy all year. His first 2 season were marked by ankle injuries, which are difficult for DL in particular.

Even if he is what he is at this point, he is a player the Packers would want to bring back for a 2nd contract. His pass rush ability alone makes him worth his contract, even if his sack numbers don't jump off the page.

The Bears will attempt to keep Rodgers and the Pack offense off the field by running and passing to Matt Forte. The problem for the Bears is that A, Rodgers will not need much time to score against the Bears defense. I would really like to see the Packers come out flying in an opening game for once. Packers win 31-16. Thanks, Since '61

I was thinking the same thing. If I was John Fox, I'd rush the ball about a 5:1 ratio. Slow the game down, limit the number of offensive series the Packers get. Limit the number of chances Cutler gets to screw up. Hopefully, you're still in it in the 4th qtr and maybe pull something out.

I don't think it will work, though.

I'm repeating myself all week. Sorry. But packers have easy win (irregardless of special teams) IF they control Forte and dump-off passes to Bennett;
1) track Forte and seal him off as a receiver,
2) set the edge and not let him bounce outside, or reverse track.
3) Safeties don't overcompensate to stop Forte and allow play-action deep balls.
Though Forte will have some impressive 5-9 yards run b/w the tackles, he'll still only manage about 4.2 yds per carry, and bears lose by wide margin.

I think that lot of Packers fans will be surprised by Packers D... I watched a lot of preseason and what is there to see: When Mike Pennel was in the game, opponents were running ball to the opposite side of the field, after very few tries... If Packers will play one on one on D, that may be close game, as we had no one who can match Bennett on one on one, so do not expect D like that... I predict that Scott Tolzien will play second half...

I actually expect that the Packer defense will NOT play that well in this first game (timing, miscommunication, unscouted looks) and that the lack of Nelson and a hobbled Randall Cobb will hurt the offense more than people expect. That said, the only way the Packers lose is if the turnover margin is -2 or worse.

Big games for Lacy and Adams allow the Packers to pull one out (and leave for plenty of banter here next week): Packers 27-21.

As blustery and confident as I've been about the team this year, I think both the O and D will be feeling themselves out a bit in the first game. That's not to say it won't be comfortable feeling win, but I think the final score will look closer than it should.

28-21, Packers, in a game that never feels as suspenseful as the final score.

Kind of like the Steelers-Patriots kick-off game, I guess? I never for one second thought that the Patriots were doing anything but comfortably controlling that game, yet the final score was pretty close.

I think the offense will concentrate on running the football with Lacy the first two series and Starks the following two with a sprinkling of Rodgers. Jared Allen will be lost in space and get plowed by Fast Eddie and it will make the highlights.

Cutler will be reigned in to a dink and dunk offense featuring Forte in the flats and Bennett coming off of his blocks to make catches. We will see Capers not make the right adjustments for this until the fourth quarter.
Luckily we will be able to hold most of these dink and dunk drives to field goals as our d will tighten up in the red zone.

Rodgers 18/22 for 289. 3 tds. (Only reason we don't see more yds here is because Tolzien is in)
Lacy 115 yds. 1 td.
Starks 56 all purpose yds and a screen td.

Jay. Only 1int due to a tipped ball to ha-ha.
Marty B has a stellar day. Forte does not.
Packer fans buy the Jay cutler Packer jersey and wear it humorously the rest of the year.

31-13 Pack
