Packers Supplemental Draft Primer

Take a look at all four prospects eligible for Thursday's NFL supplemental draft.

We've already taken a look at two supplemental draft prospects, BYU running back Harvey Unga and Illinois defensive lineman Joshua Price-Brent. For the sake of covering all our bases, we want to take a look at the only other two candidates available, Northwestern State running back Quentin Castille and Truman State running back Vanness Emokpae.

The Packers don't figure to be players in the supplemental draft based on past history and the fact that they'd have to cut somebody already on their roster just to make room for them. But you never know. I doubt many people were predicting the Packers would take Mike Wahle in the supplemental draft back in 1998. The draft takes place tomorrow.

Northwestern State running back Quentin Castille

Castille originally enrolled at Nebraska and had his best performance in the Corhhuskers' 2009 Gator Bowl victory over Clemson while rumbling for 125 yards. He was later dismissed from the team and transferred to FCS school Northwestern State where he was only third on the team in rushing this past season.

The money quote on Castille comes from Rob Rang of NFLDraftScout.com:

Some talent there, but he's a bad guy. He could offer to pay for the plane ticket here and I still wouldn't even offer him a tryout.

Truman State running back Vanness Emokpae

At the very least, Emokpae is intriguing. He's been listed as being anywhere from 5-11 to 6-1 and about 240 pounds, but he's also versatile. He led Truman State in receiving in 2007 and rushing attempts in 2009. He returned kicks last season and also acted as the team's punter in '07.

The money quote on Emokpae comes from Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee:

Given his dimensions, most NFL teams ... see him as a fullback, but the guy has the athletic ability of a Romanian gymnast.

Below is video from Emokpae's workout in front of scouts.

Vanness Emokpae does sound interesting. Look at the versatility. He led his college team in receiving and rushing attempts AND returned kicks AND he was the team’s punter. Guarantee TT is already in love with this guy
