The Packers had five players who were inactive, including Deguara and Vernon Scott for health reason.  Shemar Jean-Charles, newly acquired LaDarius Hamilton, Jake Hanson and Jack Heflin were healthy scratches.  Curiously, the Packers chose to elevate Equanimeous St. Brown from the practice squad as the seventh wide receiver rather than Heflin or a safety.  The Packers played quite a bit of dime (33%) against the Lions despite having just three safeties active. 

The offensive line fared pretty well even with Runyan replacing Lucas Patrick at left guard.  The line did not allow a lot of pressure, and most of the hurries and quarterback hits came after a reasonable amount of time had elapsed since the snap of the ball.  The Packers rushed the ball 14 times for 60 yards in the first half, good for a 4.3 yard average, with a long of just 9 yards.  A couple of runs went nowhere, but most rushes got positive yardage.  Dillon rushed for 3, 4 and 4 yards, for example.  The Packers ran the ball three times on the first drive of the second half for 14 yards.  After that, rushing yards became a little tougher to come by.  The Packers finished with 31 carries for 96 yards, a 3.1 yard average (including three kneel downs by Love for negative three yards).

Aaron Rodgers completed 8 of 10 passes for 75 yards in the first half.  Aaron Jones caught 4 passes, but two of them were for touchdowns.  Adams caught 3 for 29 yards and Tonyan caught one for 19 yards.  Rodgers heated up in the second half, completing 14 of 17 passes for 180 yards, including a beautiful 50 yard bomb to Adams and a laser to Tonyan for a touchdown.  Rodgers threw 2 big time and 2 turnover-worthy passes, per Pro Football Focus.  Adams played defense on one of the questionable passes.  Rodgers targeted Valdes-Scantling 4 times but did not connect.  Rodgers overthrew him at least twice.  Rodgers finished with a 145.6 passer rating.

The Packers seemed to be attacking Alex Anzalone by having Tonyan run routes down the seam.  Tonyan finished with 3 receptions for 52 yards and a touchdown, and also drew a penalty.  Marcedes Lewis threw some nice blocks, including a block sealing the edge for Jones on his touchdown run.

Amari Rodgers played only on special teams.  Dafney played a lot of snaps, even more than Tonyan.

The Lions rushed 14 times for 60 yards for a 4.3 yard per carry average in the first half, exactly the same as the Packers.  They had a long rush of 12 yards.  The Lions rushed 5 times for 48 yards in the second half, but Goff scrambled 3 times for 43 of those yards.  The two rushes by Swift gained just 5 yards.  I would have sworn that the Packers run defense in the first half was much worse than Detroit's, but the numbers indicate otherwise.  Still, the defensive linemen as a group did not have a good first half.

Jared Goff had a fine first half, completing 13 of 16 passes for 137 yards and 2 touchdowns, good for a 141.9 passer rating.  The Packers did not generate enough pressure.  Matt LaFleur said that he told Joe Barry to either play coverage or get after the quarterback because playing man and sending four was not getting any pressure (per Tom Silverstein).  The first half summary does not list any tackles for loss or quarterback hits in the first half.  The Lions had four possessions in the first half and scored two touchdowns and a field goal.  The Lions had a false start, an offensive holding call, and intentional grounding to compel them to punt.

The Packers did apply more pressure in the second half, finishing with 6 quarterback hits, with 2 by Gary, and 1 each by Garvin, King, Clark, Preston Smith.  Garvin's pressure led to a pass that was intercepted by Campbell.  Goff also fumbled twice, losing one of them.  He did manage to complete 13 of 20 passes for 109 yards in the second half, but the mistakes caused Detroit to implode.  

Campbell had 13 tackles (10 solo), plus the interception.  Amos had 9 solo tackles.  Eric Stokes is the big story.  He had one solo tackle and 2 passes defensed.  More importantly, he increased his snaps from 8 against the Saints (13%) to 44 (77%) against Detroit.  It came at the expense of Sullivan and Yiadom, not Kevin King. 

Per Pro Football Focus, the Packers played dime personnel one third of the time.  Amos and Savage played every snap while Black played just two snaps.  The Packers played 3.07 CBs/play.  The Packers played 5.11 DBs/play, which is up from 4.61 last week.  They only played 1.47 ILBs per play on average.  The Packers played 2.42 true defensive linemen per play, just under last week's 2.5 number.   

As a final note, Jace Sternberger is scheduled to come off the exempt list today.  The Packers will have to decide what to do with him.  They would have to make a roster activate Sternberger on the 53-man roster.
