Packers Sign WR Omarius Hines, S Chris Banjo; Cut S Ryan McMahon

The Green Bay Packers made a trio of roster moves Monday, signing two players and releasing another.

Heading to Green Bay are Omarius Hines, a 6-0, 215-pound receiver from Florida, and Chris Banjo, a 5-11 and 207-pound safety from Southern Methodist, according to the team's site. The Packers also released safety Ryan McMahon, who signed last Thursday but lasted just three practices.

Hines was signed by the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in May. Banjo, an All-Conference USA selection his senior year in 2011, signed a free agent deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars in April. Hines was later cut by the Ravens on July 22, while Banjo was released by Jacksonville three days later on July 25.

Injuries at the receiver position likely forced the hand of general manager Ted Thompson.

Sederrick Cunningham underwent season-ending wrist surgery Friday while rookies Charles Johnson and Kevin Dorsey have been sidelined for various injuries to start camp. Lacking the depth Green Bay typically employs at the position during training camp, Thompson made a move on the intriguing Hines.

A former receiver, tight end and running back at Florida, Hines has ideal size and a unique skill set. Over 51 collegiate games, he caught 64 passes for 801 yards and four touchdowns, while also rushing for 323 yards and four scores on 33 rushes.

Signing with his second NFL team before he even plays a preseason game is somewhat telling, but then again, Jarrett Boykin—a favorite for Green Bay's No. 4 receiver job—was cut by the Jaguars following a rookie camp last summer.

Banjo spent a year out of football in 2012.

Chris Banjo's tape is impressive - especially his play against a very good Texas A&M team. On tape he does seem to have the "nasty" that we sorely need. Will be interesting to see how he performs at the NFL level
