Packers Sign RB, WR To Practice Squad

Scheuerman spent part of the 2015 training camp with the PIttsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent. He suffered an achilles injury during training camp and was released.

Sheureman played at Lafayette, where he was a four-time All-Patriot League selection at tailback. He amassed 3,504 rushing yards and 31 rushing touchdowns in four seasons,  third and fourth, respectively, in the Lafayette record books On the receving end, he finished with 129 career grabs for 1,129 yards and eight TDs.

That last part is pretty interesting. If you read his NFL.com scouting report out of college, the last part reads: "Appears to have decent top-end speed to go with legitimate twitch and could get a look as a slot receiver, similar to the move the Patriots' Julian Edelman made out of Kent State."

So are the Packers kicking the tires on a running back or a potential convert to WR?

UPDATE:

Just as we were wondering that, news came that the Packers made another Practice Squad move:

Ted be Teddin'.

Wow. The Pack signs an RB to the practice squad and its NOT Montee Ball??

The Wisky fans are gonna loooove that.

I don't think Montee could be on the PS and I wouldn't be a fan of them cutting one of the RBs in favor of picking him up especially considering that Crockett would be the likely cut

I believe Montee has PS eligibility. I'm not so much in favor of signing him now, but if available in the offseason, I would like to see the Packers sign him and give him a look in OTA's and training camp.

He's probably similar to Lacy in that you have to give him the ball from a traditional "I" formation w/ a blocking FB to have any substantial success. That's all he knows.

Several articles have said that Montee Ball has veteran PS eligibility. Sounds like the RB GB signed could be a receiving back or could try to make the switch to slot WR.

He'd still need to agree to it. He might be holding on for a better deal.

This has to be a statistical anomaly but: What is the seeming issue with UW RBs in the NFL? The scout consensus was that Melvin Gordon would buck the trend. Melvin can't hold onto the ball and is buried on SD's bench.

Too many college carries? UW OLine vastly superior to Big 10 defenses?

I know right. I thought Gordon was going to be really good.

Certainly none of this means anything for this season.
Unless we have another rash of injuries.

I said that same thing when they signed crockett. With TT at the helm I don't think we will ever truly know what is about to happen... except in free agency. We know what (or what not) happens there.

I like it that TT keeps highgrading the players on the practice squad. It is the perfect venue to get a detailed view of a prospect's skill and work habits. Have someone like Crokett step up to the main team and contribute is exactly what you need from your practice squad. Good luck to these guys.

I don't understand why he didn't sign Denarius Moore or Montee Ball for the veteran practice squad spot. Those guys have more potential to get in, learn the system, and help our season NOW than these journeymen. But, then again, as we hear all the time lately, there are only minor adjustments needed and we don't need to do anything 'drastic,' now do we?

Because they didn't come cheap. I don't now why pack fans don't get it. Ted T loves the late round and un-drafteds because they come cheap. Free agents don't.

Are you kidding. Moore and Ball would be as cheap as anyone. And as for the learning the system, neither one knows it. They would have to learn the terminology just like anyone else. Ball had a chance and washed out, maybe he just didn't get it. Moore didn't cut in the NFL either. Why is he available?

Apparently you didn't watch Ball.much with the Broncos. The dude was terrible.

I am going to guess that the players you mentioned didn't cut the mustard. If they are floating around the league at this stage of the season, then, despite their draft ranking, they aren't very good. With all the RB's injured or on IR, you gotta wonder why Monte Ball can't find a spot. The undrafted guys that we did pick up must have shown more promise/better attitude/better shape/less baggage whatever to make it to our practice squad.

We're wasting our breath here Razer. Complaining about "cheapness" with FAs is sure sign of idiocy.

Ball would happy to sign for a bag of footballs. Crockett showed more in one game than Ball.has in 2+ years.

I would think that these veterans would be as cheap as anybody, nobody is busting down their door to sign them. So why doesn't TT sign some guys with NFL or big-time college experience that could be potentially used this year if need be? Why always these guys from Cabbageville A&M and Podunk College?

You answered your own question: "Nobody is busting down their doors to sign them".

NFL or " big time" college experience doesn't amount to a hill of beans at this time in the season. A street FA from Podunk College can pick up the Packers system as well as Ball or D. Moore, probably better.

I watcher the try out film of the running back and it was in the snow, miserable weather and he showed a unique ability we lack on this team: able to catch everything thrown at him, even while sliding in the snow.
But MM will never let him play because he came from a small school and can't possibly be any better than the guys we got.

Looks like the natives are getting restless. The InTedWeTrust types are getting fewer and farther between. For years I have been saying that 12 has been carrying MM/TT, not the other way around. Ted's drafts have been circumspect for many years now and McFatty can turn a silk purse into a sow's ear anyway. What a duo. And Michael Rodney thinks they are great because of W-L record and 1 fluke SB win. Talk about superficial analysis. These guys suck. Not much different than Mike Sherman really.
