The Packers have placed rookie tackle Derek Sherrod on injured reserve and replaced him with another offensive lineman, Herb Taylor, on the 53-man roster, general manager Ted Thompson announced on Tuesday.
Taylor is 6-4, 305 pound third-year player who played in 18 games including one start for the Kansas City Chiefs from 2007 to 2008. He also was on the active roster of the Denver Broncos late in 2009 but did not play.
More recently, Taylor was in training camp with the New York Giants in 2010 and the Broncos again in 2011.
Packers left tackle Marshall Newhouse was a college teammate of Taylor's at TCU in 2006 and 2007. Taylor will wear No. 72 with the Packers.
According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Packers worked out Taylor earlier this month.
