Packers Sign Driver To A 2-Year Extension

Donald Driver has reportedly signed a two year extension with the Packers.

From Brian McIntyre:

The Green Bay Packers have signed veteran wide receiver Donald Driver to a two-year contract extension, Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette reports.

Driver, who has spent his entire 11-year career with the Packers, was entering the final season of a four-year, $22.7 million contract he signed in 2007. Driver will now be under contract to the Packers through the 2012 season, after which Driver will turn 38 years old.

Driver’s extension will give him an opportunity to retire as a Packer.

Financial terms of his contract extension are unknown, but Driver was scheduled to earn $7 million in total compensation this season.

In 177 career games, Driver has caught a Packers-record 647 passes for 9,050 yards and 49 touchdowns. Driver’s receiving yardage ranks second behind James Lofton on the Packers’ all-time list, a mark he’ll eclipse with 607 yards this season.

Good for driver.

I really hope Donald's body and production allow him to be a justified member of the Packers roster through his contract, and hopefully until his goal of 40....

Not only because it's a great story, but because I don't want to hear the deafening sound of thousands of idiot Packers fans cursing Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy for 'pushing' another great, 'packers people' player out the door since they have 'earned the right' to play here as long as they want and call the shots.

I sincerely want DD to hit his goal of playing till 40 and playing only for the Packers. But, damn, if his production would falter and he ISN'T one of the best 5 WR's available down the line, AND DD thinks he can still play and doesn't retire but goes elsewhere.. the amount of crap-talking and bashing of the Packers Brass will be unbearable.

Seems like Ted is starting to really get it. This is family...Double D is part of the family and needs to stay that way.
Maybe Ron Wolfe is rubbin' off a bit.

Love Driver I see him and his family around town all the time. He's good for the community but if his production slips he can't be part of the family as you say or you will not have a

successful team.

Great for the Packers. Great for DD. Great for the fans.

Everybody wins! Except for opposing Ds...
