Packers Reportedly Working Out QB John Skelton

From Lauren Magiera, sports director of WAOW in Wausau, Wis.:

According to Magiera:

Skelton was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL draft, starting in 17 games over three seasons before being released. The journeyman quarterback was released by the Cincinnati Bengals during the final round of training camp cuts. Skelton was then signed a one-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers, but the team released him in early October.

Mike McCarthy confirmed Matt Flynn's workout in Green Bay on Monday, saying he "looked good" but offered little more.

It's perhaps possible that the Packers are not comfortable with Flynn's elbow issue and are looking into Skelton as a backup plan.

McCarthy did not have an update on quarterback Seneca Wallace, who injured his groin in Sunday's loss to the Eagles.

Meh, I'd expect they work out a few QB's over the next week or so. I don't think any of them are going to blow us away. We're looking for the what, 5th? 6th? QB for the year. Slim pickins at this juncture.

All you Flynn lovers can back off now. If he looked decent, Skelton wouldn't be coming. Flynn is injured and will never be the same guy as 2011 again.

Now let's work out Michael Huff or even Rodney Harrison.

I think they are just doing their due diligence. I still dont think Flynn is somebody we want to have, but in the short-term we need someone.

Certainly a humbling experience. At least it's temporary.

Definitely a humbling experience. Also this should really make Thompson and McCarthy focus more on the backup QB position in the future. Can't have the backup circus that we had this year.

Graham Harrell, BJ Coleman, Vince Young, Seneca Wallace, Scott Tolzien, Matt Flynn?, John Skelton? That is way to many backups in one year.

The backup job is more than stabilized IMO. Its Tolziens job to keep right now. He plays well and wins a game or 2 while Rodgers is out and the job is his to lose. If he fails you go into camp next year w/ Tolzien and Flynn or a draft pick to develop.

With Skelton they are probably just kicking the tires just in case. I don't think he's a good fit for the Packers. Poor completion % and far too many INT's in his opportunities to hold a starting job. Thompson is doing his due diligence, nothing more. Skelton is definitely not worth the trouble in the long run!

Hey if they are bringing in Skelton there must be something wrong with Flynn for sure. Again, they are betting on the cum that Tolzien will survive the Giants game and Flynn won't be needed.
Does anyone else see Skelton being signed and Flynn cut again next week?
