Packers Reportedly Part Ways with Special Teams Assistant Chad Morton
Assistant strength and conditioning coach Zac Woodfin has also reportedly left the Packers to become the head strength coach at UAB.
Chad Morton, who earned a Super Bowl ring as an assistant coach with the Green Bay Packers in 2011, reportedly won't be retained in 2014.
Without confirmation from the team, that could mean that Morton's contract has expired and the Packers simply chose not to extend.
According to Mike Vandermause of the Green Bay Press-Gazette:
The Packers special teams units slipped from 12th in 2012 to 20th in 2013 in the Dallas Morning News’ annual rankings, which takes into account 22 different statistical categories.
The Packers ranked last in the NFL in opponents’ average starting position following kickoffs (25.6-yard line) and were 30th in kickoff return average (20.3). On coverage units, the Packers ranked 29th on kickoffs and punts.
Also included in the report, assistant strength and conditioning coach Zac Woodfin has also left to become the head strength coach at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, his alma mater.
With the most recent subtractions from the coaching staff, the Packers now have four vacant positions after quarterbacks coach Ben McAdoo left to become the offensive coordinator of the New York Giants and Kevin Greene left the team to spend more time with his family.
It's already been reported that former running backs coach Alex Van Pelt will shift to quarterbacks in 2014.

I will bet that Slocum does not leave for a better opportunity. He is in over his head now and every other team knows it except McCarthy.

McCarthy knows it. McCarthy and Slocum are close friends. Slocum and McCarthy have dinner with their wives at each other's house once a week as reported by media. Slocum is not going anywhere. One of the first things McCarthy did right after the season was to defend Slocum saying how hard it was for Slocum with all the injuries. No one even asked about Slocum. McCarthy defended him anyway.

It's common knowledge that Slocum and McCarthy have been close friends since 1990 while they were both at Pittsburgh.

Finally some accountability, that coverage unit has been a laughing stock for years. As for the conditioning coach, good riddance! The whole conditioning team should be internally audited this off season.

Thanks, Hank, agreed. Everyone talks about Capers and Slocum. Given the horrendous play at Safety, Darren Perry's name should come up sometimes, too. Plus, I think (wait for it) that GB had talent at safety in Burnett and McMillan, and experience in Jennings and Burnett. While I did not expect stellar safety play, it should not have been so putrid. Something wrong somewhere.
