Packers Reportedly Agree To Deal With Letroy Guion, Make Offer To Raji

ESPN reports on the Packers' latest moves, which could help start to solidify the defensive interior.

From Demovsky:

Demovsky is the one that reported that the Packers and Guion were working on a long term deal during the season. You have to think Guion's legal troubles this offseason probably cost him a bit of money.

This move makes perfect sense for the Packers in that they bring back a player who, once he rounded into playing shape after missing all of training camp, gave them more quality snaps than anyone expected heading into 2014. And now they get him back on another one-year, prove-it deal.

Demovsky also has the Packers offering B.J. Raji a one year deal for "less than $2 million." I wouldn't be surprised to see Raji wait things out a bit, but you have to think he ends up back in Green Bay one way or another.

Welcome back letroy. In my opinion punishing people for weed is bullshit but he should be punished for pulling the do you know who i am card. We all make mistakes so lets move on and not keep making the same mistakes. Next up raji and kuhn, draft and develope. Maybe we can extend some contracts too.

I'm glad Guion is re-signed now that his legal status has been resolved. He's a nice rotation player to have up front. He's not going to dominate while chewing up 70% of the snaps but he can chip in effectively.

As to Raji, he hasn't had so much as a half sack since 2011. I think the statute of limitations has run out on when he was an effective player. I hope he finds more money elsewhere. I'm tired of waiting for the guy we saw in 2010/2011 to re-appear.

Re-signing Guion is good news. It may take a little more negotiating, but I think TT will re-sign Raji too. Then, it's on to the draft!

"Ian Rapoport @RapSheet
#Packers are expected to bring back free agent DT BJ Raji on a one-year deal, source said. He missed last year after surgery on his bicep"

Looks like they are finishing up their unfinished business in FA.

I like the idea of having Raji back at NT especially on run downs and having Guion at NT on passing downs.

I agree. I'm totally down with this. It seems very low-risk with at least some potential for high reward if a motivated and healthy Raji at NT can recapture some old form.

If Rajii signs at the estimated salary having 2 players who have performed well in the past at low cost and only 1 year contracts has to give the team a level of confidence that they can concentrate on LB and CB in the draft. However, they will need to groom a young player based on either leaving in 2016, too bad Thornton didn't show more in camp last year. Boyd has over achieved but seems to be cast as a DE rather than a DT but he could be used there short term.

It seems there is significant uncertainty whether BJ can bounce back from the biceps injury enough to contribute. I'm sure other teams feel the same way. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Yeah, the injury concern may be there but I am guessing the God awful play he put on tape in 2013 has more to do with it. He was really bad in 2013. Hurt all 2014. Not a recipe for a payday in 2015.

2012 wasn't much, if any, better for Raji than 2013. His last sack came in 2011. It's 2015 now. He's not known as a block of granite vs the run, either.

It's been a good long while since he's done much of anything.

It is obvious some new blood is necessary for the DL and i think these signings are necessary stepping stones for now.

Raji had been league-worst-DE kind of bad the last three years. I'm very skeptical that a position change will make enough of a difference to matter.

I'd rather he not even sign with us for fear we might waste snaps on a black hole of negative play.

Big guys dont grow on trees and most of the time you wont hear their name called when they are taking on multiple blockers. Only the packers know if he is doing his job. He was asked to play out of position with pickett at the nose. Lets give him a chance back where he belongs.
