Packers Release Tony Brown

The Green Bay Packers have reportedly released cornerback Tony Brown, according to the team's Twitter account.  Brown appeared in nine games this season and missed several due to various injuries.

The Packers have an open roster spot that they will soon fill with the playoffs looming.

Tony was a dog the kind of guy you want on your team but man he can be a real bonehead at times perhaps this release means Raven Greene will return. Hopefully they can stash Tony on the PS.

When you're near the bottom of the roster you better be mistake-free and healthy. I don't think Brown was either.

Not sure he made that many mistakes this year other than being injured? He’s a talented young man. With maturation and development, he certainly be a solid CB in the NFL. Hope we can reacquire him somehow and wish him the best. His speed and willingness to hit & support the run stood out to me! He reminds me a bit of the all pro CB from the Vikes who retired years back.

The player I was thinking of is A. Winfield. A stretch I know given the longevity of his career but I saw some similarities in Brown. Unless there was some seriously disruptive locker room stuff or the injury is expected to permanently hinder his performance in the future, I don’t like the move. You can’t teach speed & willingness to hit. Any bad habits or behavior should be able to be addressed with proper coaching.

He had more penalties than tackles. He was a liability on defense and special teams. Just a boneheaded players who we are much better offf without. Can you tell me of even 1 impact play he made during his time here?

Maybe making room for another "Brown" that could spur the WRs?

What spurs most receivers is a target now and then.
Even us amateurs can relate to the notion that touching the ball is a great source of energy for involvement in a game.
Just like there's renewed optimism for Rashan Gary on defense, and growing support for Lazard as a receiver, let's not discourage other young guys like MVS and Tonyan and Vitale who may be ready for a breakthrough.

I like to tell fans of other teams, GB would never take a bad apple like Brown. But, I have to admit to thinking about anyway to solve the WR problem immediately. Short of Jordy coming out of retirement, Brown would have some value, I agree, downside maybe there, but I remember Bad Moon Rison gave us a boost in a Super Bowl run back in the day. WR is a real weakness, he is a talented dummy.

Antonio Brown will be put on the suspended list the minute he “signs” with any team. He still has an investigation of serious accusations that must be resolved prior to being reinstated. Not sure why everyone doesn’t understand this.

Not to mention he's recently worked out for the Saints. I don't see the Packers having any interest in him. Too much baggage.

There must be a corresponding roster move coming. Raven Greene would be great! He was playing so well before he got hurt. Was Brown injured? If not to me it makes more sense to waive Ryan Grant if a roster spot is needed. He hasn't been active all season. Hope T. Brown sticks around somehow for next year as he showed a lot of potential.

The timing...on the eve of our last game...suggests they just didn’t think they wanted him anymore and he wasn’t part of the plan anymore.

The day after restructuring Rodgers contract we signed Lucas Patrick to a two year deal at about 3$ million. Good. Already building the 2020 roster. He’s being paid like a decent backup or cheap starter.

The injury to Greene, the age of Tramon, the injury history of King, the non-development of Jackson, and now the release of Brown. Perhaps we should consider adding some talent to our secondary..

This makes no sense to me. Better options to cut if GB needs a roster spot. Oops, not that many. Probably Ryan Grant of Leglue/Veldheer.

Someone in the comments at the APC site noted that David Bakhtiari liked the tweet of the report from Rob Demovsky, implying that there may have been some locker room dissension between Brown and other players. Maybe we'll find out more in the coming days.

Saw that. If true, Bakh shouldn't do that. Well, if it bad enough, maybe. I should wait to react to the Bakh part.

That's the only way it makes sense - there had to be some locker room issues.

Totally Stupid! Brown was the talk of preseason camp. Rodgers even went on record, with a few choice/positive words. Tramon Williams can't play forever. Pettine sure knows how to kill talent. Rd1 CB again? Montavis Adams next? The biggest mistake a club can make, is wrecking the chemistry before the playoffs! The revolving door never produced a championship.

A bit a of strange move, Gute has to already have a corresponding move in mind whether that be bringing back Raven Greene off IR, a PS promotion or a signing of some sort. Otherwise, I don't understand this move the day before week 17? Corner depth is important heading into the playoffs and you never know, we could have a rash of injuries against the Lions. All indications were he was a decent locker room guy with a lot of energy. You also cannot teach speed which Tony Brown has. We shall what is next.

Brown fell into Pettine's dog house early this season before he was injured. Also the growth of several DB in the slot/hybrid position vs Brown only playing the boundary became a liability. Charger game really put the stake in his career here. The utter lack of awareness on the field was shocking for a player who had played so well in the same system the year before. With the return of Campbell and Jackson finally back to football shape, there was no place for Brown on this years roster. And if Greene is close to being ready for the playoffs, then Pettine will have his preferred secondary for the playoffs. Brown became expendable...

My problem is Pettine's dog House. Was Brown over achieving? Attitude? Or is Pettine just an intolerable boss when it comes to free Agents. Based on what was said in camp. I believe Brown stood in the way of Jacksons development. High Draft choices get preference. I believe that is the case here. I believe Brown wanted to start and kept getting push down after his injury. The player can't fight back the tricks.

As long as they are cutting guys that they think are dead weight on the roster, what are they waiting for on Jimmy Graham?
