Packers Release TE Jake Stoneburner with Injury Settlement
The Green Bay Packers reached an injury settlement with tight end Jake Stoneburner and released him on Thursday, according to the league's transaction wire.
Stoneburner was placed on injured reserve with an unspecified ailment on Saturday Aug. 30, the day of final roster cutdowns in the NFL after playing in the team's final preseason game.
During the preseason Stoneburner had six receptions for 64 yards. He played in nine games for the Packers last season, mostly on special teams, not catching a single pass.
Thursday's release allows Stoneburner to sign with another NFL team at the expiration of his injury settlement, although by rule, he wouldn't be able to sign with the Packers for at least six weeks after the expiration of the settlement.
In former Packers news, the Miami Dolphins—with ex-Packers assistant Joe Philbin as head coach—made a couple transactions regarding some familiar faces. Cornerback Brandian Ross was released while linebacker Terrell Manning was added to the practice squad.
