Packers Receive Compensatory Fifth-Round Pick

The Green Bay Packers received a fifth round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft Monday.

The Green Bay Packers received one compensatory pick in the 2013 NFL draft Monday, a fifth-round selection scheduled to come at No. 167 overall.

The pick comes as a result of Green Bay losing Matt Flynn to Seattle (three years, $19.5 million) and Scott Wells to St. Louis (four years, $24 million) and signing Jeff Saturday from Indianapolis (two years, $7.75 million) during last season's free agency period.

A season ago, the Packers received four such selections.

Compensatory picks cannot be traded.

Since the NFL started assigning compensatory picks in 1994, the Packers' 31 are second only to the Baltimore Ravens, who have received 37.

Below are the Packers tentative picks in the 2013 NFL draft, with compensatory picks for all 32 teams factored in:

  • First round, No. 26
  • Second round, No. 55
  • Third round, No. 88
  • Fourth round, No. 122
  • Fifth round, No. 159
  • Fifth round, No. 167 (compensatory)
  • Sixth round, No. 193
  • Seventh round, No. 232.

What a crock of shit. Wells will be healed up and start all year, and Flynn may still be traded somewhere with a shot to start, but because their 2012 seasons blew, we get screwed.

Russell Wilson screwed the Packers in more ways than one this past year...

Just wait until Flynn rides the bench for a few years and then someone signs him as an UFA and SEA gets a higher comp pick than we do. lol Apparently $6.5 million salaries are now 5th round picks.

Was hoping for a fourth rounder.

Really seems like we should have got at least a 4th. Note overly pleased about this in comparison to what other lost and got in a compensatory pic. Overall, everything seemed fairly tight. SD gets no pick in giving up V-Jax.

Seems a bit lacking to me, at least a 4th rounder.

Look at what San Francisco lost last offseason, and look at their compensation for this draft. F***!

I'm not surprised at all. I figured all along that at most they would get is 1 5th round pick. I thought possibly 1-6th and 1-7th, but definitely nothing higher then a 5th.
If the Packers don't sign much for players this year, I can see them getting a 3rd for losing Jennings, but probably would be a 4th. Then I see them getting a 6th or 7th for Walden and Crabtree combined.

Less likely to have fumbled on the one yard line, at least.

Packers got exactly what I predicted. I thought the 4th round was a little high considering the lack of playing time for FLynn and Wells. Take what you get and make the pick count. Looking at a couple picks next year for sure, unless we sign a FA like Huff. Even then we should still get something.

Huff was released wouldn't count against our compensatory picks next year

My bad. Worst case scenario I thought a 4th and most likely a 4th and a 7th.

I still think we got screwed.

Pack needs to sign Huff and Bradshaw before the draft. Huff for 4m an Bradshaw for 4.5m, then land 2 immediate starters in the draft for Oline and D line. Hopefully Perry comes back and has an impact. Bishop and Smith need to come back healthy. Finley needs a strong year.

I can hear the commish now "And with the 167th pick; the Green Bay Packers select Left Tackle Someguy from small school. This is their sixth LT taken this draft."
