Packers RB Eddie Lacy to the Pro Bowl as 49ers, Seahawks Advance

The Green Bay Packers may not have had any players voted into the Pro Bowl when the roster was initially announced in late December, but it appears as if rookie running back Eddie Lacy will soon be flying to Honolulu for the NFL's annual all-star game.

By virtue of the San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks both advancing to the NFC championship game this past weekend, and running backs Frank Gore and Marshawn Lynch named to the Pro Bowl from those respective teams, one of the two is guaranteed to be playing in the Super Bowl.

There's been several rule changes to the Pro Bowl this season, such as teams being chosen by captains, the elimination of kickoffs and a quicker play clock among them, but unless there's been some unpublished changes to the makeup of the rosters, Lacy will take ether Gore's or Lynch's spot at the Pro Bowl as a first alternate to the game.

Since the Pro Bowl has been played the week before the Super Bowl, players from the NFC and the AFC representatives do not take part in the Hawaiian all-star game.

No official word has yet come from the NFL or the Packers on this matter.

I sure hope Allen didn't steal ROY yesterday, he had a good game... But that should be Ed's award.

With Rookie of the Year voting up to the whimsy of an online fan vote instead of the media, it seems more like one good performance like Allen's on Sunday could sway more voters.

Do you really think the fan vote determines the ROY? Maybe they publish the results and I'm just a conspiracy theorist, but I have little faith that a system where anyone (or an IP address) can vote 1000's of times will be the sole determinant for which rookie gets to triumph the almighty NFL's public image.

My view. Lacy deserves OROY for sure. I know Allen was good, but did he singlehandedly change the offense from the previous year?

Just look at what the Packers offense has been like the previous few years, especially last year. They had no running game. Not only did Lacy change that he made it a focal point of the offense.

I don't remember off the top of my head, but I believe he finished 3rd with most yards after contact for RB's? I know he was high on the list but don't remember the exact number.

Lacy should be OROY. I don't know who else could compare to the impact Lacy had on our team. Unfortunately we were pretty mediocre and I think that will sway voters away from him. They'll look at teams who did well and vote that way instead of looking at the individual player.

Sort of reminds me of baseball MVPs. You don't typically get it unless your team is over .500 and in the playoff race. Otherwise it doesn't matter if you bat .495 with 149 RBIs 53 steals and a gold glove worthy performance in the field.

Any which way you look at it though I'm glad Lacy is going to the pro bowl. Nice that he gets that honor his first year in the NFL. I'm pretty glad he fell as far as he did (glad as in-lucky he fell to us). We got a great back in the 2nd round.
