Packers Question of the day - What's the Window?
A lot of articles across the internet have come as a result of head coach Mike McCarthy and quarterback Aaron Rodgers saying the window is definitely wide open to win another Super Bowl before Rodgers' career reaches its end.
How far is the window, and can the Packers hoist another Lombardi trophy before it ends?

The window is open as long as #12 stays healthy and productive. Sorry, no crystal ball here.

4 years 127 days, 10 minutes and 36 seconds..
Seriously, too many variables to process.
Its just a guess at what age he 'falls off a cliff', in terms of physical performance.
Same applies to mental performance, his processing speed.
Its another guess if he still wants to play, as his performance declines.
Part of keeping his desire is having good players around him.
Another part is who his HC coach is, and how they operate..... we assume it is MM, but things change.
Finally (god forbid), he could have a career ending injury that cuts his career short. A horrible possibility, but still there.
Maybe a better question is how many years the Packers hang on to him AFTER he is far past his best. Teams do tend to do that - see Peyton Manning, for example.

The way ARod keeps himself in great condition, 5 years. That'll make him 38. But as Jordy and Cobb age, probably less.

Sounds about right. I'd say 3 years for sure. After that, it is kind of a crap shoot. The accumulated injuries will begin to add up at some point.

With the DBs standing around with their hands in the air blaming each other over and over again as WRs run through the secondary wide open, I'd say the window is shut.....

I hate to keep ragging on Randall, but he was the main culprit in the hands up in the air crap after every play the D was burned.

No pass rush, slow LB's, can't cover DB's. Window, door, entry areas are running on fumes...if that. Too late to build with TT'S philosophy. We'll have a stretch of years with what of may have been. Really SAD!!

I would assume we have 3-4 years to actually crawl through the open window. I also assume the defense will have to get an infusion of talent or there is no window. Aaron probably has another good 4 years but not sure about Nelson, Cobb and the OL. If we get into a situation where we are trying to rebuild the weapons around #12 and still working on the defense then forget it.

Jordy Nelson was the key to A-Rods window. We all saw his bad starts without Nelson. I for one think A-Rod is declining. He needs faster and younger players to keep him hot. His youth is gone. The packers have to keep him HUNGRY. If he gets hurt, the pain will show like most with age. Will the new GM have the courage to trade him, or ask for a pay cut. I feel A-Rods window closes after TT goes.

I hate to say it but my feelings are inline with some packer sports analyst, if ted doesnt change and fill holes with experience free agents but contnues with d&d i say the window is closed. No SB cor you.
One or two key people this year on pass d, and the champ game may have been in GB.
Rather ted dipped nto his p squad and we saw how that worked. A great op passed by. Blame ted for all of it

The window is open until Rodgers contract ends after the 2019 season. At that point Rodgers, if healthy, may opt to play for another team, especially if they can demonstrate their commitment to winning the SB like Denver/Elway did for Peyton Manning. There is no guarantee that Rodgers will re-sign with the Packers or that the Packers will extend him. Basically, TT, MM and A. Rodgers are a package deal. They'll all be here as long as Rodgers is. It's possible that TT will go sooner but he won't be pushed out by Murphy that's obvious. We've got 3 seasons for certain. Without FAs on defense 2017 might be done already. So we're down to 2. Let's see what the off season brings. Thanks, Since '61

I agree with Since '61. Rodgers is from Cali, his girlfriend is a film actress and needs to be close to Hollywood, and he shows an affinity to attend movie premieres and awards shows. He doesn't deer hunt or ice fish so why would he hang on in GB unless TT loads up the team with playmakers and he can smell Super Bowl. I'd be looking for him to go to the Rams, Chargers or 49ers at the end of his contract.

Makes sense in regards to the lifestyle side of things. 49's his team growing up. But, if it is about winning championships, not sure if any of those teams are close.

I do think Aaron cares A LOT about his legacy. I think it matters to him to be remembered as the greatest Green Bay QB ever, and leaving when his contract is over would tarnish that. If he stays and Ted is gone, the window opens right about then.

Three years only if the defense can be vastly improved rather quickly. Still need a better running game. You also have to take into account the other teams that have improved in the NFC that can stand in the way. Atlanta and Dallas are the two that stand out right now.

There's no window with Ted Thompson's roster building philosophy. Once he's gone, it all depends on Aaron's health and whether or not he stays with GB. Assuming AR stays, I'd say 2019-21.
And we'd better draft a QB in 2019 (or 18 if it looks like Aaron would leave.)

What window? I see a wall built with UDFA bricks and a GM who has been drafting heavy on D for years (5 straight first round picks) and failing to field a championship caliber defense.
