Packers Question of the day - Did you want Crosby canned?

It's Friday, we can all finally rejoice and cap off the work week before heading into the weekend.

Straying away from all seriousness over the bye week, let's dive into the past a little bit.

2012 was an abysmal year for Mason Crosby. So bad, a good handful of fans wanted him gone after that season. Whether it was a mental lapse clouding his focus or anything along those lines that prevented him from performing at his usual level, there was a clear problem with his kicking during that season.

However, head coach Mike McCarthy stuck with him and now, he's one of the more consistent, dependable kickers in the league.

Be honest. Did you want Crosby gone after 2012? Because I sure did. (Stupid me)

I pride myself in being rational about these sorts of things. Seldom to I call for somebody's head.

I was at the game in Indy when he almost hit the long snapper in the ass with his game tying attempt.

Yes, at that moment I wanted Crosby to get cut.

Yup. Nobody else seems to have a problem with a simple question. Thanks for your input.

Yeah I wanted him gone, I am glad he is still here but they did the right thing in lowering his salary and adding incentives.

Agreed. You think they could try this with MM (1/2 LOL)?

Living down here in Texas I watch many of the games streaming on the internet. There was one occasion when the SkySports commentator mentioned that Mason Crosby missed a 40 yard field goal 40 yards to the left. At that point I think my feeling on Crosby was that they should have cut him. I believe my exact words were more like fire his butt and not even let him on the team plane back to Green Bay. Give him a bus ticket back.

Yeah I was definitely ready for him to go! I think the question is - had we moved on to someone else, would they be appreciably worse the last few years? Maybe it would have been better had we found someone else mid-season. I am as glad as anyone Crosby worked it out, but he lost a game or 2 for us in 12.

We have seen what kickers do, its like we move on to another what. I am still not convinced this punter is better than Mashtay was.

He's better at directional kicking and at putting the ball up high on short punts. Mastay had a better leg.

It can be a cruel game, but if you don't perform you get canned. Crosby DESERVED to get canned on his performance back then, but MM made the choice most of us would not have done and somehow, against all expectation, Crosby did turn it around.

Head coaches are not renowned for patience when it comes to kickers, so if it had come to a poll of the 32 head coaches at that time, I suspect the voting would have been heavily biased to "Can him and move on !"

MM has often been criticised for waiting too long to make a decision that needs making, but he came up trumps (not Donald) here.

I think this article begs the question: Is Mason Crosby God's Gift as a field goal kicker now? I think he is adequate. Since no one knows who TT might have drafted or signed if he had been serious about replacing Crosby rather than bringing in a guy designed not to oust Crosby, this is impossible to answer. Certainly TT could have done worse.

Really? Thinking you are in a state of total denial. He is much better than adequate.

Admit you were wrong and move on

Can't honestly remember what I thought about the decision at the time, just remember that I had no faith
in Crosby. Never have been a MM fan especially when
it comes to him making what appears to be a logical
move. So, I'm guessing I probably was against keeping
Crosby. His decision worked out. For me what would be
more interesting to know is how MM arrived at the decision to keep him. Maybe that question has already
been answered, I just can't recall. I do know it wasn't
enough to change my mind on MM.

MM gets the team to the playoffs about every year. That's more than any other HC. Not bad! Remember: there are 31 other team in the NFL.

Nope. Mason was in a slump. I'm really glad MM kept him. Now, Walsh from the vikings is going through a rough stretch as their Kicker. I'd be okay with firing him.

It's important to be perfectly honest.

I didn't want him canned.

I wanted his dog shot, tires slashed, and Crosby hung upside down by his toes.

Nowadays, I would vote for him as Mayor.

Good answer. People here are confusing how much they like him now versus what they thought when he was 21 for 33 for the season and many of the misses were ugly, ugly misses. This included a game they lost by 3 to the Colts where he missed two 50 plus yarders, one on the last play, that were not even close.

He was a liability then. But the Packers felt they had a talented guy and stuck with him and they were right.

I know for sure I wanted him gone. In 2013 when they brought in the so called "Competition", I knew Crosby was still going to be the kicker. He was horrible at Family Night in 2013 (3 of 8) and I thought this could get ugly.

BUT Crosby turned in his finest season ever in 2013 hitting on 89.2% of FG attempts and making all his extra points. I still held my breath on every kick during the 2013 AND 2014 season since we're all being "Honest".

I like Crosby and I'm glad he's still here. Could we do better than Crosby? Maybe but WHY? Crosby kicks is a tough stadium, none of that Indoor sissy Sh** like Walsh or Prater. Since 2013 he's 13 of 19 from 50 and beyond. He's one of (was in 5 or 3) kickers to make every extra point last season, and he's $$$ from 40 and in. We could do a hell of a lot worse.

I really did not think they would look elsewhere unless it became a money issue. Turned out to be a good pick and deal for the packers. So if he misses, I'll just blame the holder again.

I wanted them to sign Havard Rugland (aka Kickalicious). The lions signed him but they went with Akers. He worked out in GB but we went with Crosby. The marketing alone would've been worth signing him!
