Packers Preseason Schedule Released

The Packers have announced their preseason opponents and one prime time preseason game.

From Packers.com:

The Packers will open the preseason in

Cleveland. The date and time of the game have yet to be determined but it will be played on a date between Aug. 11-15. It’ll be Green Bay’s first preseason trip to Cleveland since 2003. The Browns won, 27-24, at Lambeau Field in last year’s preseason.

Arizona will help the Packers open Lambeau Field for the 2011 season, when the Cardinals visit Green Bay in game two of the preseason, to be played on a date between Aug. 18-22. It’s expected this game will be a “Gold” ticket package game

Kansas City will close the preseason at Lambeau Field on either Sept. 1 or 2. It’ll mark the second straight year the teams have met in the preseason finale. The Packers last hosted the Chiefs in a preseason contest in Green Bay in 1992. The Chiefs beat the Packers, 17-13, at Arrowhead Stadium in the 2010 preseason.

The Kansas City game also marks the 51st annual “Bishop’s Charities Game,” a charitable contest initiated in 1961 by Vince Lombardi and the Diocese of Green Bay that has raised more than $3.4 million to date.

The one game for which the date and time are set is a rematch of the Packers-Colts clash, won by the Packers, 59-24, that was nationally televised last summer. It will be played at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Friday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m., and it will be nationally televised by CBS.

So yes, its basically the same preseason as last year, with the venues switched around. The one new preseason opponent is the Cardinals.

UPDATE: While the Packers have kept most of the dates open, the NFL has actuall dates on their schedule.

August 13th vs Cleveland

August 20th vs Arizona

August 26th vs Indianapolis

September 1st vs Kansas City

The one I'm *"excited" to see is Packers Chiefs. Want to see how we handle their speed.

*excited as can be for a preseason game.

BTW, I think it's never too soon to start the mantra. Let's say it together: "It's only a preseason game."

So the "Battle of the QBs: Green Bay vs. Indianapolis" Isn't enough to get you jacked up?

Oh wait, its a preseason game.

I'm going to be as excited as all get-out for the first preseason game if it actually goes off as scheduled.

Yes, but more in the sense that there is an NFL season, right?

BTW, is this all a PR plot to make the offseason more exciting and marketeable? Am I crazy? Am I kididng? Am I asking rhetorical questions?

Correct. I just want the game(s) to take place. Although I do get a little excited over the 1st preseason game because it's the 1st Packers football of the year, and the 3rd preseason game because teams actually play at least one "half" of football.

There's no marketing to this. They make a lot of money in the offseason that's in jeopardy. Think of all the people who sign up for NFL Sunday Ticket in the offseason. Who is going to cough up $300+ in July if there is no hope for football? I know they stagger the billing, but still. Teams make local revenue from training camps, etc.

I will agree that neither side is getting too fired up just yet, but by the time June and July roll around, teams will be getting more and more nervous.

Personally, I wish the judge would impose mandatory binding arbitration and just get this mess over with.

I'm just glad we don't play TEN again. Granted, they'll be different because Fischer is gone, but TEN ALWAYS took the preseason games seriously and out physicaled GB. They routinely made us look terrible, and it seemed we always got someone hurt in that game...
