Interesting signing. Insurance against injuries, or insurance in case our new CBs don't work out? Either way I think it's a good pick up. TT/MM have done a solid job with the PS so far. Thanks, Since '61

Scouting report on Daniel is he ran a low of 4.36 40 yd at his pro day, he's got some wheels along with size!

The pro day is hand timed. Daniels "self-reported" a time of 4.34 (to which no one paid attention and which was better than his best work out time of 4.38). The official pro day forty time was still a nice 4.46, with a nice vertical (35") and broad jump (126"). What's impressive is that he is 6' 0 and 7/8ths" (a shade under 6'1") and 209 lbs., as well as his 24 reps on the bench press. His 3-cone is only decent and his 10-yard dash time of 1.64 is not good for a CB. Not so good in man, but does well in zone, like Hayward. Intriguing prospect with good physical talent, and we have Whitt to develop him. He sounds like a FS made to order except his tackling is subpar for a CB, much less a safety.

i would prefer they tell datone to stay away, or see if they can unload him for 7th rounder somewhere.

I would agree except I think they could have done it two years ago

I agree with you on Boyd, that dude has shown me nothing during his career: 27 tackles 0 sacks. Datone Jones at least makes some plays now and then:30 tackles 5 sacks 1 Int. He also had 2 sacks this preseason before getting leg whipped in the knee by his own teammate. Hes in his 3rd year, and has something to prove after the suspension.

Whoever they are thinking about cutting for Jones should get a long look against the Bears to see if they are worth keeping around. 3 weeks for Guion and the way he looked this preseason, he might not be invited back.

Evan, I agree that Boyd is on the bubble. But I think since we play Seattle week 2, Boyd's forte of run defense would be handy against Lynch. I agree though that if Boyd wants to keep a job in GB he'd better step up fast. If he survives Datone's return, he still is probably chopped when Guion returns.

I hate the idea of cutting Banjo, but he is probably on the bubble too. For those who wish to do so, please identify the back up at FS and SS. If you name Hyde, recall that he is essentially a starter elsewhere (Hyde played 704 snaps last year). If Hyde is moved to FS, who replaces Hyde week 2? I'd cut Goodson.

Any injuries would change the equation, but I think they may not cut any defense at first. They are carrying a bevy of OLs and DBs. If the starting O-Line is healthy, they could try to move somebody to the Practice Squad from this group. Although I believe in our back-up O-Line, they are not much for special teams. Goodson and Banjo continue to contribute on special teams where we have a large need (again provided our starting OLine is healthy).

I agree with the Datone-trade comments but TT has never accepted responsibility when he drafts wrong. He seems to hang on to these guys- for goodness sakes, take your lumps and move on, man!

Nobody has been more critical of TT's draft picks on the defensive side of the ball but I want to see Datone for another season. He's finally healthy and seasoned. Last chance to show us that he has what it takes. Of course he, like most of TT's DL picks is better suited for a 4 man front than a 3 man front. The top two reasons TT's DL picks fail, IMO, is they have short arms and are better suited to play in a 4 man front.
