Packers Podcast: Consider Marcus Martin a Second-Round Option

The Packers could arguably get the No. 1 center in this year's draft class with the product out of USC.

On Friday morning I joined Mike Wickett and Chuck Freimund of Sports Radio 1250 AM WSSP in Milwaukee to react to the selection of Ha Ha Clinton-Dix in the first round of the NFL Draft and look ahead to the second round. We discussed the many needs the Packers have to address, including tight end, wide receiver, linebacker and offensive line, with particular attention on USC center Marcus Martin.

I mentioned Marcus Martin in a post early this morning. Given the obvious desire of the Packers to get bigger at the position I just think he makes 1/6 of a ton of sense. He also has one year of quality experience in a premier conference, so he has some experience at the position. I think the Packers should love the idea of snaging Martin and keeping Tretter as a utility back-up.

Don't love going center so early.

GB does not seem to value the Center position that other GMs/teams do so I would be a little surprised if they took a center this early in the draft

He makes some sense but I wish we had retained EDS so that this wasn't such a need pick and I think at #53 there is a good chance to find a gem at one of the deeper positions in this draft. Seems like GB's immediate needs correspond to areas where there is little depth in this draft (ILB , C, FS). Have to wait to see who is there, but I am hoping to find another gem at #53. Will TT think Martin is better than Tretter?

I think Ted is Shittin bricks without that quality tight end. He did nada last year to shore up the O line and look at the costs of that mistake.
All I know is the Lions, Vikes and Bears got a lot better and we got Dix.
Peppers is old and will collect da mooney but don't expect explosiveness from him that left the stage two years ago. Besides had Ted not drafted Datone and Worthy, this team might have a solid core at defensive line instead of one sure pass rusher Mathews and a slew of wannabe's.
