Packers Place Seneca Wallace on Injured Reserve

When the signing of Matt Flynn became official on Tuesday, the Wallace season's came to an end in Green Bay.

The Seneca Wallace era in Green Bay didn't last long.

Wallace was placed on season-ending injured reserve on Tuesday when the Packers made the signing of Matt Flynn official.

In parts of two games, Wallace completed 16 of 24 passes for 139 yards with zero touchdowns and one interception.

Wallace's salary for the rest of the season will be cut in half after agreeing to a split contract upon signing with the Packers. He'll be a free agent at season's end.

Head coach Mike McCarthy has already committed to Scott Tolzien as the team's starter Week 11 at the New York Giants, but Flynn becomes the immediate backup.

With his familiarity with the system, Flynn shouldn't encounter much of a learning curve, but his elbow issues do stand as a bigger problem.

During his time with the Packers, Flynn completed 82 of 132 passes (62.1 percent) for 1,015 yards and nine TDs with five INTs for a 92.8 passer rating. He played for Seattle in 2012 and spent time with Oakland and Buffalo this season.

Wide receiver Chris Harper has allowed Flynn to wear his old No. 10 jersey, while Harper will now wear No. 13.

Is Flynn's elbow really damaged or not? Seems there is conflicting information?

Was that groin injury really 'season-ending'? I think there's more to this story and there's some anger at Wallace for wimping out after the first series. Just my uninformed opinion though.

Probably not "season ending" but the Packers weren't about to carry 4 QBs. I think IRing him instead of cutting him gives him a little more money.

Why do people keep saying Wallace wimped out? Can someone explain this to me? Or is it just one person? Why would he wimp out?

So, Wallace is finally defeated by two cheap Irishmen? I swear McCarthy reads my posts because that's what I said we need to do last week. I was right again!!

All I know is I swear in the Bears game when he came in, I saw total fear in his eyes. It was like, he wanted to be anywhere but on that field getting beat on.
Noticed that twice he could have ran for some yardage and when he saw a hit coming he just tossed the ball away, like hell no I don't want to play this game.
I mentioned to my wife before the Eagles game that I hoped Tolzien got some practice in because if my assumption was correct, he would have some kind of injury early in the game; either made up or real.

Wallace was expendable, boy was he expendable! He can't throw the deep ball and everyone knows it. He sure got the hook quick when guys like MD Jennings are running around the field with their heads up their asses. Kept Justin Harrell around for ages just because they f-ed up picking him #1. I'm a little confused. In the end we all make mistakes I guess. Man are we as fans frustrated, lmfao.

Tough break for Seneca. No Packers Ring of Honor or Packers Hall of Fame. But fans will always have that groin pull to remember the drive, dedication & sacrifice of a real trooper playing at QB for the Pack.

So long & good luck, big fella. Already looking forward to 'Seneca Day" at Lambeau sometime in the future.

Indeed. It will be one of those plays you can identify by just a short name. "4th and 26", "Jerry Rice fumbled", "The Groin Pull".

You had to figure that if they picked up Flynn, Wallace would be gone. I think if the person you want to cut is injured your kind of screwed with him. You must offer a settlement or in the packs case put him in IR.

I wondering if someone is on IR and there injury is determined heeled, at that time the person can be cut? Thought I read that somewhere.

They can be cut while on IR; you'll see that all the time during training camp when camp fodder gets injured. They'll reach an injury settlement where they basically negotiate giving them some portion of their salary and then waiving them.
