Packers New Unis

So, as we read about last month, the Packers are indeed going to have an alternate uniform this season, taken from the 1920s. Personally, I am thrilled. But this has prompted a curious reaction from Michael Lombardi over at the National Football Post:

Uh oh, the Packers are unveiling a new uniform on Friday. I don’t like the sounds of that. I’m a traditionalist when it comes to uniforms, and I believe even the slightest variation of that tradition is not right. I’ll wait to see the outcome, but I don’t like the sound of this at all.

Um, Mike? You're a 'traditionalist'? How much more 'traditional' can you get than going back to a franchise's founding roots?

Like I said before, I may end up bankrupt from all the merch I end up buying - which, of course, is exactly the point as far as the Packers are concerned. Well played, franchise that I adore. Well played indeed...

Normally I am not much for these throwback uniforms, but the Packers current 1980's color pallet uniforms of bright yellow and green look like pure butt next to the old school navy blue and gold they had back in the day.

I may have to get another jersey or seven as well.

if it's a throwback i'm ok with it.
if it's just an "alternate" uniform i hate it.

He is pretty vague on what he actually means. Perhaps he's leery of the Packers altering the old uniforms to modernize them up a bit or, potentially, to bring them up to current NFL standards. On that sentiment, I'd agree. If they aren't identical to the old ones (at least as far as looks go), then don't bring them back.

Either way, this is just a shameless attempt to sell more apparel. That's one of the biggest reasons that many teams go back to throw-back uniforms or create new alternate uniforms.

I love 99% of the throwback uniforms out there (the old Buffalo Bills are at the top of the list).

Mike says "a new uniform," which makes it seem like they're changing their everyday unis. But that doesn't seem to be the case at all - just a throwback 3rd jersey for a game or two.

Yeah, I kinda dig those, dustybrick. I love the Packers. But find their colors pretty ugly.

Ted would never touch the current uni's. I agree they could use a little sprucing up though.

My question with the uni's is this:
In the beginning, Halas fashioned the Staley's (A.K.A. bayurz) colors after the Fighting Illini, makes sense, I can definitely see the resemblance to this day.
Lambeau fashioned the Packers uni's/colors after the Fighting Irish. There is definitely a strong resemblance there with the early uni's...
What happened? No resemblance now. Why did we get away from that, anybody know?

1950: "New head coach (Gene Ronzani), new uniforms: "We are the Green Bay Packers," he said as he added green to the color scheme. Packers use three varying uniform sets in rotation:"

I'd love to know that as well, Fitzcore. My brother is a Fighting Irish alum and I always thought their uniforms were pretty badass, especially the home ones.

Think both the fans and players will like these. Hope they wear 'em when I'm at Lambeau.

i don't like this idea those are the same color's as the Michigan Wolverines. I know that is college but any self respecting wisconsinite would boycott this. I Enjoy the all Gold/Yellow top with all Gold/yellow pants and green numbers on the top and a green stripe on the side of the pants with a Gold/Yellow Stripe coming down the middle of the Green stripe.

I agree Hyper. They're sharp.

The GBP will be getting an order of 4 from my household, my little one's will love 'em.

They weren't 'throwbacks', but does anybody remember those toxic waste / neon green uni's the Seahawks trotted out last year? Their fans were ASHAMED. The front office got wind of just how poorly they were received and said that they were a one and done deal... DISASTER. It was pretty funny on AM radio around here for a couple of days, people were pissed.
