Packers LB Dave Robinson Elected to Hall of Fame

Packers linebacker Dave Robinson was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Saturday, joining 21 other former Packers to receive the prestigious honor.

The wait was long, but former Green Bay Packers linebacker Dave Robinson was finally elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Saturday.

A three-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro, Robinson became the 22nd member of the Packers to be elected, and the first since Reggie White was inducted in 2006. Robinson was a senior nominee but received the 80 percent vote needed for induction.

Robinson will be enshrined into the 2013 class with guard Larry Allen, defensive tackle Warren Sapp, offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden, receiver Cris Carter, coach Bill Parcells and defensive tackle Curley Culp, the other senior nominee.

Coach Vince Lombardi and the Packers drafted Robinson in the first round (14th overall) of the 1963 NFL draft. Robinson went on to play 155 NFL games over 12 years, 127 of which came in Green Bay. He won five NFL championships, including Super Bowls I and II, and was named to the NFL's all-decade team of the 1960s.

He also intercepted 27 passes and recovered 12 fumbles. Robinson retired in 1974 at the age of 33, and the Packers inducted him into their Hall of Fame in 1982.

After nearly 40 years, Robinson finally received the nod from the rest of pro football.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Robinson will become the 11th member of the Vince Lombardi era to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

As a kid, I loved nitschke for his ferocious style of play, but Dave Robinson was everything a linebacker should be. He shed blocks and stuffed running backs. He could "flip his hips" and cover. He was a sure tackler in the open field. Truly a great, great football player and I'm so happy to see him get due recognition.

Well earned Dave Robinson! Now we need to lobby loud for Jerry Kramer. That will seal the Glory Years GBP membership in the NFL HOF!
