Packers Free Agency

The yellow journalism is already starting to flow this afternoon as we approach the 2009 version of the Green Bay Packers and free agency. Either way, here is something to ponder.

I ran across an article titled "Packers: Finally a player in free agency?". This of course, got me all pumped up for some actual "news" news. But alas, it wasn't going to happen. However, it does throw out a list of less household names to keep an eye on.

It reads:

"Green Bay could target is New England's Pierre Woods, a restricted free agent expected to receive the second-round tender ($1.45 million) from the Patriots.

Woods, 27, entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2006 out of Michigan, where he came in as one of the nation's top high-school recruits. He already has experience in the 3-4 scheme and has ideal size (6-foot-5, 250 pounds) for the outside linebacker spot.

Woods played in 12 games (three starts) for the Patriots last season after seeing action in 24 regular-season games his first two years, almost exclusively on special teams.

Among the other players scheduled to be restricted or unrestricted free agents who could intrigue the Packers are Cleveland's Andra Davis, Jacksonville Mike Peterson, Miami's Channing Crowder, Pittsburgh's Andre Frazier, San Francisco's Ronald Fields and Dallas' Chris Canty."

Some very intiquing names indeed.
