Packers Fans Should Ignore the Offseason Noise

Lists and Power Rankings are the currency of the offseason, but they don't mean anything.

I was sent this by one of my Twitter followers today and it got me thinking about the offseason and what fans tend to pay attention to when it comes to content on the Internet.

Now, I understand where this guy is coming from. It's frustrating to see your favorite team low down on any kind of list/power ranking, etc. (Imagine life as a Jaguars or Titans fan... *shudders*)

But the truth of the matter is that most, if not all, Power Rankings are pretty much worthless. They are the lowest of the low hanging offseason fruit, designed to "start a conversation" (that's what the list-makers will tell you) during a long, arduous offseason. What they really are is noise. Filler meant to drive clicks and pageviews without substance.

I'm here to tell you to ignore the noise.

I recognize I'm not telling you anything you don't already know, but consuming this kind of click bait nonsense is a complete waste of your time. Try searching out things that will expand your knowledge of the game (I highly recommend checking out everything on Smartfootball's Resources page or my buddy Emory's Football Gameplan site for starters.)

You'll feel better about yourself and you'll become much more educated about this game we all love. What could be better than that?

OK guilty, I checked the preseason power-rankings the other day. No, I don't put much credence into them other than pointing out at that the Packers are ranked higher than the lolions and barelys. Have a lot of Lion fan friends up here in the U.P.

Bleacher Report:
We've placed 68 bags of dog poop with advertising outside your door. There's a penny in one of them!

Thank you! Personally I find most of the articles on the same level as "Dog Poop" as well. I like Bob Fox okay but Bleacher report is something I might look at once I've read EVERYTHING about the Packers on ALL of the other Packers sites I visit. I'll even read "Dear Vic" before Bleacher Report. I have yet to read a "Dear Vic" without the guy bringing up the Steelers! Jezz that guy drives me crazy!

There's one Ranking I care about, the one at the end of the year. If the Packers aren't playing in the SB I don't care about that one to much either.

Why are there articles from hacks who think they can rank an draft class in April?

Because we click on them. Don't feel too bad, I do it to.

I'm guilty of looking at these silly rankings as well. Saw we were #2 in USA today power rankings and thought, "They really know what they are talking about." Then I saw that they rated our draft in the bottom 6 or 8 and I thought, "These guys are idiots."

I've developed a matrix using off-season power rankings and draft grades to accurately predict the Packers record every year to within +/- 4 games. How can you say they aren't important? I'm beginning to question if you're even a fan, Nagler!

The unfortunate aspect of this is simple. --- If the so-called "noise" had GB's "D" in the top 5 in the coming season, then Nagler wouldn't even have written a useless blog complaining about it. ---(sorry Nagler --- but you are so obvious, it's abit comical)
