Packers Draft Grigsby, McElroy To Round Out #MockThree

Arizona running back Nic Grigsby and Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy were taken in the sixth and seventh rounds of #MockThree.

With their sixth-round selection in the #MockThree draft on Twitter, the Green Bay Packers selected Arizona running back Nic Grigsby, #197 overall.

Grigsby had a big sophomore season for the Wildcats in 2008 when he rushed for 1,153 yards on 214 carries with 13 touchdowns.

The knock on him is that he hasn't met that production since because of injuries and sharing the position with other players.

However, the raw skills are there. At his pro day, Grigsby put up eye-popping number with sub-4.4 40-yard dash and a vertical leap of 43 1/2 inches.

And it's not like he fell off the map completely. He had over 500 yards rushing in each of his junior and senior seasons, to go along with 25 receptions in 2010.

The hope is that he can be a fast, change-of-pace/third-down back if Brandon Jackson leaves via free agency. He seems to have the receiving skills, but can he pass protect?

Central Florida outside linebacker/inside linebacker/fullback Bruce Miller was also under consideration for the sixth-round pick.

With their seventh-round pick, #204 overall, the Packers drafted Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy.

Tons of comparisons to Matt Flynn will be made. Both are known more as game managers rather than play-making quarterbacks.

They're also both late-round draft choices from the SEC that both led their teams to national championships while in college.

With McElroy the Packers would be preparing for the eventual departure of Flynn, whether it's in a trade or in free agency next season.

Louisville offensive tackle Byron Stingily was also considered with the seventh-round draft choice.

That wraps up #MockThree for the Packers. Here's their 2011 draft class...

  • 2nd round (64th overall) – Titus Young, WR, Boise State

  • 4th round (107 overall) – Luke Stocker, TE, Tennessee
