Packers Daily Links: Team Announces Changes to Lambeau Security Procedures

More gates and more officers are being added at Lambeau Field starting for this Sunday's game against the Rams. That and more in today's Daily Links...

The Packers are hoping to avoid the long lines outside Lambeau Field that prevented fans from seeing part of the first quarter of the last home game. "The metal-detecting wands will continue to be used, but starting this weekend against St. Louis there will be more screening lines, more screening officers and a 'streamlined' screening process," writes Tyler Dunne of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

More on the security procedures at Lambeau Field come from the Green Bay Press-Gazette, JSOnlineFox Sports Wisconsin, Fox 11 News and the Packers official website.

Linebacker Erik Walden is profiled in a feature written by Tyler Dunne. "The life-changing memories returned," Dunne writes of recent return to his native Georgia. "His dad dying of a stroke when he was 10. His cousin stabbed to death in drunken fury when he was 12. His grandmother passing away. Three tragedies - back to back to back - sent tremors through Walden's childhood." Walden, of course, has been the starting right outside linebacker for every game this season and has 12 quarterback hits.

Former Packers general manager Ron Wolf is interviewed by Pete Dougherty of the Press-Gazette about the influence of deceased Raiders owner Al Davis. "Wolf insists Davis’ influence on him was profound," writes Dougherty. "Judging by an interview with Wolf this week, it probably shows up in today’s Packers in more personal ways among their scouts, such as work ethic, performance standards and the fundamentals of evaluating players."

Offensive coordinator Joe Philbin was interviewed by Tyler Dunne about the performance of rookie tackle Derek Sherrod. "You have to be prepared," Philbin said. "You always use the phrase, 'You’re one snap away from being a starter.' You have to prepare that way, but I think human nature sometimes, you dress for an X amount of games and you don’t get in there, you can kind of lull yourself to sleep. You have to stay involved in the game mentally. You’ve got to be alert when the guys come over to the sidelines, looking at the pictures, making any blocking scheme adjustments that you need to make."

I have always wondered what exactly are those pictures they look at?

Stills from the coach's tape that show where everyone is lining up, what routes/schemes they are running, etc....

"It will look real ugly," (James) Jones said. "Real ugly."

Love that quote.
