Packers Daily Links: Ryan Grant Works Out for Lions

The former Packers running back is working out for a division rival. That and more in today's Daily Links...

Citing a report by Jason LaCanfora of CBSSports.com, Wes Hodkiewicz of PackersNews.com notes that former Packers running back Ryan Grant is working out for the division rival Detroit Lions. "With five running backs already on the roster, the Lions have featured 25-year-old Kevin Smith over the first two weeks of the season with former second-round pick Mikel Leshoure being eligible to return this week after serving a two-game suspension," writes Hodkiewicz. There were reports over the summer that the Lions were interested in working out Grant, but Grant's agent said the money wasn't right, which seemed like a bold-faced lie. Three weeks into the season it seems impossible for Grant to accept anything above a nominal fare if he truly wants to play.

The agent for tight end Jermichael Finley took to Twitter to criticize the leadership of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, as pointed out in an article by Jason Wilde of ESPNMilwaukee.com about Rodgers and his public admonishment of wide receiver James Jones in last Thursday's win over the Chicago Bears. "ARod is a great QB he isn't a great leader," agent Blake Baratz is cited as saying in Twitter shorthand. "There's a major difference. Leaders take the blame & make every1 better. He doesn't." In Rodgers' defense, several other people––both teammates and those in the media––have defended Rodgers and his leadership style, as pointed out by Wilde. It's somewhat odd that Finley's agent initiated a discussion that didn't have anything to do with his client other than the loose association that he and Rodgers play on the same team.

More on Aaron Rodgers and Jermichael Finley's agent appears in USA Today.

The Packers worked out nine free agents, according to Scout.com's Packer Report. "The Packers tried out running back Davin Meggett, outside linebacker Kendrick Adams, guard George Bias, cornerback Conroy Black, outside linebacker Robert Eddins, running back DuJuan Harris, outside linebacker Cordarro Law, cornerback James Nixon and outside linebacker Chavis Williams," writes reporter Bill Huber. "Meggett, out of Maryland, is the son of former Giants star Dave Meggett; Harris carried nine times for 42 yards for Jacksonville last season; Eddins spent time on Buffalo’s practice squad last season; Williams spent a little time on Baltimore’s 53-man roster last season." The article does not say when the Packers worked them out. The most interesting name, at least to me, is Law who fits the profile of 3-4 outside linebacker and did good things for Southern Mississippi last season.

The fantastic start to the season by outside linebacker Clay Matthews is analyzed by ESPN.com, AllGreenBayPackers.com and Matthews has been named the Packers Hall of Fame's Featured Player of the Week.

Features on cornerbacks Sam Shields and Tramon Williams are published in the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

Peter King of Sports Illustrated does an in-depth breakdown of the Packers' fake field goal for a touchdown last Thursday.

Defensive coordinator Dom Capers came to inside linebacker D.J. Smith's defense after a poor game in pass coverage.

The Packers' next opponent is the Seattle Seahawks who are featured in an article by the Associated Press and quarterback Russell Wilson in an article at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

An improving defense and sluggish offense are noted in an article at Fox Sports Wisconsin.

Analysis of the recent Packers-Bears game appear in blog posts at Packerpedia, AllGreenBayPackers.com and Acme Packing Company.

The play of B.J. Raji is improving, according to Adam Czech of AllGreenBayPackers.com.

Too bad Quarless was injured last year, he was really making strides. He would have been a nice option to give Finley a dose of reality as he watched from the bench.

Finley is the most talented TE the packers have had in a long time and possibly ever. However, he is immature, mentally weak, always injured, lacks concentration, and equals JJ as the most inconsistent player on the roster. I am glad TT gave him such a short deal. Obviously he hoped Fin would grow up and become one of the core players, but talking through your agent about your QB, the reigning league MVP, and his lack of leadership will ensure this is the last contract you will get from GB. Heres to hoping DJ can step up and steal some time from Finley.

Finley had nothing to do with the dumb comment. The guy was ranting about Cutler and said that there was a "big dropoff from Manning, Brees, and Brady" in terms of leadership in the NFL. When prodded by fans about why he excluded Rodgers, he spouted off. Basically, he's an idiot.

Which is funny because Blake Baratz, and his agency The IFA, prides himself on being different, or in his words "better", than other agents.

I don't see him being all that different than any other agent.

If Blake Baratz was spouting his own opinions, he certainly didn't do his client any favors. Finley should fire him for putting him in a compromising situation. Sure he was answering a broader question, but common sense says you don't go where he did. Idiot either way.

If he's regurgitating Finley's stance, then Finley needs to take a long look in the mirror. Considering the amount of dropped passes Finley has had, Rodgers has shown increadible restraint in not going off on him.

He already fired and rehired the guy a couple years ago. Seems like a shady dude.

Speaking of leadership...Steve Rosenbloom of the Chicago Tribune has a short video comparing Jay Cutler to Neidermeyer in Animal House...it's a great laugh....
