After previously stating that he had received some feelers from Saturday Night Live during a local radio interview with the ESPN Radio affiliate in Milwaukee, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers told 1090 AM in San Diego that he has turned down an invite to host the NBC sketch comedy show. "I have been invited. I want to do it, I want to do it right," said Rodgers. "The commitment that it takes in my opinion to do it the right way was just too much for me this offseason, so I will be doing that in the future and look forward to the opportunity." Giants quarterback Eli Manning is hosting SNL this weekend. Maybe Rodgers wants to space out appearances by NFL quarterbacks.

Newly drafted safety Jerron McMillian spoke about replacing newly released safety Nick Collins in an article by Tyler Dunne of the Journal Sentinel. "He did so much in a short span," McMillian said of Collins. "Now, I'm walking in. I don't want people looking at me like I am Nick Collins. It's a tough situation. But you have to get into it. You have to do what you know best." It would be unrealistic to expect McMillian to be the next coming of Collins, especially early in his career. Packers fans should just hope he impresses and progresses. It would be great if he could be a starter in Year One, but it should not be considered a disappointment if he does not.

It was speculated by Jason Wilde of ESPNMilwaukee.com that Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie could be hiring a scout or two from the Packers after firing college scouting director Jon Kingdom on Monday. "Perhaps the most logical candidate from the Packers staff would be Shaun Herock, the Packers’ Shaun Herock (sic), the Packers’ longest-tenured college scout in terms of continuous service," writes Wilde. "Herock and McKenzie both joined the Packers scouting staff full-time under GM Ron Wolf in 1994, with Herock scouting college prospects and McKenzie working as a pro personnel assistant under Wolf. McKenzie was promoted to director of pro personnel in 1997 and to director of football operations in 2008." As Wilde notes, there have been no reports that McKenzie has requested to interview anyone on the Packers' staff as of yet. At this point, it's only speculation.

Head coach Mike McCarthy justified the moving of rookie orientation camp to two weeks after the NFL Draft through a quote provided by Rob Demovsky at PackersNews.com. The Packers, under McCarthy, had previously held orientation the weekend immediately after the Draft. “There’s a couple of things that factored into the scheduling of rookie orientation two weeks after the draft,” McCarthy said. “It’s debatable, based on how it affects your ability to acquire rookie free agents, (but) the ability to extend the weekend right into the players staying and only have to travel once is accommodating. We’re able to keep them instead of flying out after rookie orientation and coming back. So that’s part of it. I think the fact that you can get through the draft, and you’re not sprinting into the following week is helpful. I’d prefer to have it two weeks after the draft. It works better with our schedule.” The Packers made a change they hope will work. If it turns out to be a mistake, they can always switch it back in future years.
