Donald Driver's professional dancing partner from Dancing With The Stars, Peta Murgatroyd, will join the festivities at the Donald Driver Celebrity Softball Game on Sunday at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton. "It will their first appearance together in Wisconsin," writes Don Walker of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "Murgatroyd will throw out the first pitch and help coach the offense in the game." Murgatroyd will also reportedly announce an inning during the statewide broadcast that airs the following weekend. Broadcast details were not available.
Linebacker Clay Matthews is embracing a mentorship role with new first-round draft choice and fellow linebacker Nick Perry. "I'm going to get him up to speed," Matthews is quoted as saying by Paul Imig of Fox Sports Wisconsin. "The good thing is I was able to play with him for one year at SC, so there's a common bond there. In talking with the coaches in the pre-draft process, I liked the kid outside of his physical attributes just because he's willing to learn, he wants to be good and he's a character guy." Both players, of course, have a common bond being from USC, which––in addition to his superior play––makes Matthews a good role model for Perry.
Offensive lineman Marshall Newhouse is profiled in an article by Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette about becoming the first option at the left tackle position. “The thing with him is he doesn’t make the same mistake twice," offensive line coach James Campen is quoted as saying. "It’s very rare. He’s building his library as a professional football player and at the tackle position. He’s a very smart kid who understands how important it is to protect the backside of the quarterback, and he will get better. He will make strides.” Newhouse made plenty of mistakes last year in his first professional playing time, but as long as he continues to make strides and gets better, he's a good bet to nail down the starting job.
Jason Wilde of ESPNWisconsin.com makes an assumption regarding the hotly debated contract of wide receiver Donald Driver and when he'll rejoin the Packers for practice. "That likely depends on how long it takes for the Packers and Driver’s long-time agent, Jordan Woy, to strike an accord on a restructured contract for Driver," writes Wilde. "But it appears that is now a matter of when, not if." Driver is currently under contract and can practice at any time, but the Packers may not want him to practice until they agree to a restructured contract that would protect the team in case of injury.
