Packers Daily Links: Pay Cuts For Employees Not Ruled Out

Whether the Packers cut the pay of their employees depends on whether they lose revenue. That and more in today's Daily Links...

Hope everyone had a good Memorial Day weekend. Here's what you missed the past couple days...

Packers president Mark Murphy spoke with the Green Bay Press-Gazette over the weekend and said that while Packers employees, including coaches, haven't been docked pay as of yet, it remains a possibility. “It’s based on when we’re going to start missing revenue,” Murphy is quoted as saying. It was also reported that the Packers have lost very little revenue during the lockout. According to Mike Vandermause, the Packers have lost a little in the area of sponsorships, however, ticket sales remain largely unchanged.

A feature on former Packers vice president Andrew Brandt appeared in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "Decoding the legal strategies and rulings of the NFL lockout," writes reporter Lori Nickel. "Brandt boils down the legal jargon into digestible terms." A lot of the general populace knows Brandt as one of the NFL business analysts on ESPN where he gives updates on the lockout.

Another feature appeared in the Press-Gazette about Cory Elmore, new draft choice Ricky Elmore's brother. "Cory Elmore had been forced to quit football after his redshirt freshman season, when doctors found a defect in his heart that required surgery," writes Pete Dougherty. "He tried to return the next spring but didn’t feel right. So that was it. No more football." He's now attempting a comeback and looks to play at Arizona State.

There are three new candidates for the organization's board of directors. "The three are Valerie Daniels-Carter, president and CEO of V&J Holding Companies Inc.; Thomas J. Hinz, a former Brown County executive; and Karger David Kohler, president and COO of the Kohler Co.," writes Don Walker of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Also, Philip J. Henderson will take on emeritus status.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers expressed interest in appearing higher on ESPN's "Twindex" rating that ranks NFL athletes and their Twitter exploits. "Rodgers appeared enthused by the idea and on Thursday tweeted (a) message to San Diego Chargers linebacker Shaun Phillips, who holds the top spot," writes NFC North blogger Kevin Seifert. Rodgers currently appears at no. 2 on the list.

Whether the Packers will be allowed to participate in the annual Supplemental Draft this summer is up for debate. "Last week, The Sports Xchange’s Len Pasquarelli wrote that the Supplemental Draft 'is covered explicitly in the expired collective bargaining agreement' after he had asked NFL spokesman Greg Aiello," writes Bill Huber of Packer Report. "Aiello did not immediately respond to a follow-up e-mail from Packer Report on Monday night in which we asked how the Supplemental Draft could be held without a regular draft allowed in 2012." Huber goes onto the Supplemental Draft to the situation evolving at Ohio State and whether some of their players will seek inclusion in the draft scheduled to be held on July 15.

Calls for NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and NFLPA executive DeMaurice Smith to resign, also come from Bill Huber. "As the lockout continues with no end in sight and the threat of the season being delayed becomes more and more real, it’s increasingly clear that Goodell and Smith are leading the game and the people they represent on a bullet train toward a cliff," writes Huber.

Also at Packer Report, there's a free agent profile on defensive linemen Cullen Jenkins (subscriptions required) and a scouting report on seventh-round draft choice Lawrence Guy.

The NFL needs an intervention, writes C.D. Angeli at Tundra Vision.
