Packers Daily Links: McCarthy Irked by Playing Time Questions

The Packers head coach was annoyed when asked about playing time for wide receiver Donald Driver. That and more in today's Daily Links...

Packers head coach Mike McCarthy displayed some frustration when asked a question about declining playing time for veteran wide receiver Donald Driver. "Hands gripping the lectern, Mike McCarthy had enough," Tyler Dunne of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel described the scene. "His voice sped up. His temper rose. He doesn't want to have this conversation again. Donald Driver's declining number of snaps was brought up during Wednesday's press conference." I can understand Mike McCarthy being annoyed with this question. He certainly doesn't need to apologize, but his players aren't doing him any favors. If he wants to stop being asked questions about this topic, then his players have to stop complaining, namely James Jones and Jermichael Finley.

Donald Driver, for his part, is keeping his chin up. "Driver, meanwhile, said he is 'fine with' seeing his playing time decrease and said he hasn’t approached McCarthy or quarterback Aaron Rodgers about his role in the high-powered offense that has led the Packers to a 5-0 start," writes Jason Wilde of ESPNMilwaukee.com. Will Driver continue to be surpassed? We can only wait and watch.

Offensive lineman Bryan Bulaga was seen wearing a brace and walking with a limp, according to Rob Demovsky of the Press-Gazette. "He practiced Wednesday, albeit on a limited basis, for the first time since he bruised and sprained his left knee on Sept. 25 at Chicago," writes Demovsky. "He has missed the last two games, and if he can’t play against the Rams, the Packers would be without both of their starting tackles. Left tackle Chad Clifton is out indefinitely because of the severe hamstring injury he sustained Sunday at Atlanta." The Packers are giving him a chance to play on Sunday, but haven't officially announced he'll play yet.

More on Bryan Bulaga and the rest of the injury reports come from the Associated Press, ESPNMilwaukee.com, PackersNews.com and JSOnline.

In case Bryan Bulaga doesn't play, offensive lineman Ray Dominguez was promoted from the practice squad. "One of two offensive linemen on the practice squad, Dominguez got the call because of potential," writes Tom Silverstein of Journal Sentinel. "There's a chance he'll be active Sunday because rookie Derek Sherrod is focusing strictly on tackle this week in case he has to start for Bulaga." Head coach Mike McCarthy said Dominguez is focusing on the interior of the offensive line this week.

More on Ray Dominguez comes from Fox Sports Wisconsin.

Former Packers Al Harris, Brady Poppinga and Josh Gordy all play for the St. Louis Rams, who will play the Packers this weekend. "Just in case he thinks we forgot, we are not letting him get his hands on us," receiver Greg Jennings said of Harris to the Journal Sentinel. "That is not happening. If he gets his hands on you, that's a wrap." Training camp running back Quinn Porter and running backs coach Sylvester Croom are with the Rams too.

If Bulaga is limping, I'd prefer that Newhouse and Sherrod play this week for experience. Then, if needed, they'd have more experience for MN, and to review film during the bye week.

Good to see Al Harris catching on and making a contribution. I think TT see's higher upside with our group, though.

Agreed. I'd rather they wait 1 or 2 weeks longer than necessary than rush him out there and risk losing him for even longer.

Rodgers had this to say recently (JSO):

“(snip compliments to rookies in general).... I’d like to see Ryan Taylor get some reps. I thought he had a great training camp."

Just for amusement, I hope somebody asks McCarthy about Taylor's reps based on this quote following the Rams game if he gets no touches.

Just for fun:)
