Packers Daily Links: Matt Flynn Working Out With Opponent

Quarterback Matt Flynn has been working out with Lions tight end Richard Dickson this offseason. That and more in today's Daily Links...

On the calendar today are the official Green Bay Packers Youth Football Camps being held in three locations this week: Green Bay, Glendale and Kenosha...

In an interview with a Louisiana newspaper, Detroit Lions tight end Richard Dickson said he's been working out with former college teammate Matt Flynn. "I think it's the healthiest I've ever been in my football career," Dickson told the Daily Comet. "Getting some good workouts in. I just moved back to Baton Rouge, and I've been working out with (former LSU and currents Packers backup quarterback) Matt Flynn and a bunch of guys I played with out there. So we're getting some good work in, but we're all ready for it to be over with." Defensive lineman Howard Green is also interviewed for the article and says his internal clock has been affected by the NFL lockout.

Jermichael Finley was interviewed by Jason Wilde of ESPNMilwaukee.com over the weekend, in which the tight end talked about what he learned this offseason. “Every step counts, every ball I get thrown to me in practice counts right now," Finley is quoted as saying. "I think (the injury) was a blessing, to tell you the truth. I saw the game from a different standpoint. It made me learn the defenses, it made me learn how to detail my routes and everything. Just seeing the game from a different standpoint, I got more knowledge.” Also noteworthy was Finley's comment on how he thinks standing in a two-point stance is in his best interests.

Rookie running back Alex Green was profiled in an article by Tyler Dunne of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel this weekend. "Green, the Packers' third-round pick in April's draft, is trained to expect hardship," writes Dunne. "The running back has dyslexia, a problem that's been central to adversity throughout his life. Green grew up without his biological dad around, was shoved through grade school, lived in his car, lost his best friend in college and fathered two children along the way." The article is lengthy and gives a very detailed background on Green, who you might remember also attended Butte Community College in California just like Aaron Rodgers.

Accompanying the article on Alex Green is a blog post in which Green's coaches at Hawaii are interviewed about their running back. “He put on 15 pounds of muscle between his junior and senior years at Hawaii," explains running backs coach Brian Smith. "He’s been a great example for the young guys in the program to go back and watch film of him at practice. Everything he did was full speed at 110 percent. He wasn’t taking reps off. He went as hard as he could. That work ethic will help him at the next level.” Offensive coordinator Nick Rolovich is interviewed as well.

Defensive end C.J. Wilson was featured in an article by Kareem Copeland of the Green Bay Press-Gazette over the weekend as well. Wilson talked about the lack of workouts during the offseason. “I won’t say it set me back,” Wilson said. “Of course it would have been a lot better working out with my coaches with that one-on-one help. Not only me, but all the guys. Nobody got that work with coach. That’s where you make your big strides, working with coach during the offseason." Wilson will battle to become part of the defensive line rotation this upcoming season.

The running back position is previewed by Bill Huber of Packer Report prior to training camp. "(Ryan) Grant has deemed himself healthy and ready to regain his spot in the starting lineup," writes Huber. "(James) Starks, if he can stay healthy, will battle to be the top dog. Brandon Jackson is a free agent who figures to shop himself in hopes of getting a bigger hand on offense than just the third-down role he’d serve in Green Bay. Third-round pick Alex Green has the build of a workhorse running back and the skills to play on third down. John Kuhn, who had a hand on third down late in the season, was a savior at times while switching between halfback and fullback. He, too, is a free agent but told Packer Report recently that he’d like to return." Two pieces on statistics and the battle at running back accompany the position preview.

Taking a stab at predicting the possible return of the Packers in free agency is also Tyler Dunne. Most of his predictions look accurate. If I had to take umbrage with any of them, I would have to say the likelihood of running back John Kuhn and safety Anthony Smith returning (at 60% and 50% respectively) should be higher.
