Packers Daily Links: Jennings Added to Injury Report

Even though the Packers didn't practice on Monday, they still had to file an injury report with the NFL because of their upcoming earlier-than-usual Thursday night football game. Wide receiver Greg Jennings was listed with a groin injury. "Packers coach Mike McCarthy says Jennings was hurt late in Sunday's loss to the San Francisco 49ers. McCarthy says Jennings 'didn't feel very good' Sunday but was better as of Monday morning," according to the Associated Press. Also new to the injury report were defensive lineman C.J. Wilson (groin) and linebacker Terrell Manning (concussion).

More on Greg Jennings and the injury report comes from Fox Sports Wisconsin, ESPNMilwaukee.com, JSOnline and PackersNews.com.

Linebacker Erik Walden was reinstated from suspension by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and joined the Packers on Monday. "In order to make room on the 53-man roster for Walden, Packers general manager Ted Thompson had to make another move, with the team deciding to release cornerback Brandian Ross," writes Paul Imig of Fox Sports Wisconsin. "Thompson could still try to free up a spot on the practice squad for Ross, who spent all of last season on Green Bay's scout team. One hour after the transaction was announced, Ross' locker was still intact." Walden had an impressive preseason with the Packers, but his role during the regular season is still up in the air with Clay Matthews and Nick Perry taking most of the snaps at outside linebacker.

More on Erik Walden comes from ESPNMilwaukee.com, Packer Report, JSOnline, Green Bay Press-Gazette, AllGreenBayPackers.com and PackersNews.com.

Head coach Mike McCarthy discussed the need for a better ground game on Monday during his press conference. "There were times the line got overpowered in the 30-22 defeat, but there were also times (Cedric) Benson cut back when he should have bounced outside and times he hurried when he should have cut back," writes Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "The 49ers made it tough on all parties involved, but even 3 yards a carry could have changed things offensively." After an impressive preseason performance, more was expected from Benson. The Packers don't need to have a dominating ground game by any stretch of the imagination, but they need to have more success than they did on Sunday.

More on the running game comes from the Packers official website.

The Packers couldn't dwell on the loss for the 49ers for long. "Less than 24 hours after suffering a 30-22 loss to the physical, punishing San Francisco 49ers, the Packers have to will themselves today to prepare to face the … physical, punishing Chicago Bears," writes Lori Nickel of JSOnline. "The rivalry game against the NFC North divisional opponent is coming up in three short days." The game is now only two days away. The Packers are coming into Thursday's game with a loss, the Bears with a win. There will be a lot at stake this week.

More on the Packers' quick turnaround appears at ESPNMilwaukee.com, JSOnline and WBAY.com.

Post-game analysis of the 49ers game comes from Bob McGinn at the Journal Sentinel and Cliff Christl and Eric Baranczyk of the Press-Gazette.

Jerron McMillian talks about replacing M.D. Jennings as the nickel safety in an interview with the Journal Sentinel.

The need to have bigger offensive plays is covered by Tyler Dunne at JSOnline.

Guard Josh Sitton reacts to the performance of the replacement officials in an interview at PackersNews.com.

Items on Randall Cobb appear at Packer Report and the Packers official website.

Questioning the Packers' playcalling is Adam Czech of AllGreenBayPackers.com.

Linebacker A.J. Hawk talks about the quick turnaround on Thursday at the Press-Gazette.

A prediction on Jordy Nelson's performance against the Bears comes from NFC North blogger Andrew Garda at Bleacher Report.

from the Christl/Baranczyk column:

"Hawk can’t cover. He doesn’t get off blocks. He doesn’t react well. He doesn’t get down hill. He doesn’t blow people up.

Then to top off that litany of faults, he rarely if ever makes a big play.

On the stat sheet, Hawk appeared to have a great game: 14 tackles, 10 of them solos. He also had one big stop on a third-down run just before the half. But of his eight other tackles in the run game, they came on average 7.8 yards downfield."

Holy Shit!

Does this mean less pt for moses? And possible pt for Boykin?

Jennings injury will give Boykin a chance (I hope). Jennings is a good WR as long as DBs do not get physical with him. The moment they do, he is done. From what I saw in the preseason, Boykin is much better at handling press-coverage, wish he had at least 4.50 speed!
