Packers Daily Links: Green Bay Spends $4.1 Million on First Nine Draft Signings

The Packers have signed all of their 2013 draft choices except for the first two, defensive lineman Datone Jones and running back Eddie Lacy. "The Green Bay Packers have used $4,111.502 of their $6,131.322 rookie pool after signing nine of their 11 draft picks, a source with access to salary data told Scout.com’s Aaron Wilson," according to Bill Huber of Packer Report. The $4.1 million represents the draft choices' first-year money only. Due to the NFL's rookie wage scale, it's pretty much predetermined how much each first-year player will get paid, although there is a little bit of wiggle room.
The changes taking place at next week's Organized Team Activities are described at the Packers official website. First of all, the practices open to the public will be taking place on Clark Hinkle Field. "Another difference was mentioned by Head Coach Mike McCarthy on Sunday when rookie orientation wrapped up, and that’s less 'team' work during OTAs, meaning there will be fewer 11-on-11 periods between the offense and defense," according to the article. "That suggests more fundamentals and drill work to prepare the team for training camp." One more change is detailed, and that's taking four quarterbacks into OTAs compared to last year's three. The purpose is to put less wear and tear on starter Aaron Rodgers.
An interview with Brandon Boctick appears in an article at the Green Bay Press-Gazette on the tight end position in Green Bay. “The more important thing has been blocking for me,” Bostick is quoted as saying by reporter Wes Hodkiewicz. “I can run and catch passes, but I’ve been working on my blocking and focus on the details of that. The playbook, this will be my second year here so I’m thinking they’re expecting me to know the playbook and take the next step.” Bostick switched his number from 48 to 86 during the offseason. There's a reason the Packers kept Bostick on their practice squad the entire 2012 season. He'll get a chance to show what he's got this year.

What I about to type might sound a bit delusional but I'm curious to hear your opinions... Assuming (BIG assumption) that Eddie Lacy, Johnathan Franklin, Alex Green, James Starks and Dujuan Harris stay healthy going into camp, I think we would POTENTIALLY have the best/most talented running back stable in football, overall. Add Ced Benson in there and its a def.

I think it's going to be much improved, but I'd probably still take Adrian Peterson and a bag of old jock straps.

Yea so would I lol; that's why I had to qualify it with running back "stable". I just think its hilarious that we'll go from Zero reliable backs (cept maybe Harris) to a few (presumed) capable starters in the span of a few months.

Looks like that one run has earned Angelo Pease Tyrelle Sutton status in 2013. Fans will be whipped into a frenzy and wonder why wonderkind Pease didn't make the final 53.

How about Ahmad Bradshaw. He's a ground and pound running back, who could not only give Lacy time to recooperate--making sure he's at 100%, and likewise act as a mentor. Plus, it would be awesome to see the Pack utilize Bradshaw to humble the.Giants--if you can't beat them, sign em'.

Remember that only 51 guys count against the salary cap in the offseason, so signing Lacy and Jones will push 2 guys off the salary cap. That will help the numbers a bit.
