Packers Daily Links: Green Bay Scouts Basketball Player
The Packers reportedly attended the workout of Cal State-Fullerton's Andre Hardy. That and more in today's Daily Links...
The Green Bay Packers were reportedly one of seven teams to attend a workout by a former college basketball player, Andre Hardy of Cal State-Fullerton. "Hardy, 25, played basketball at Oral Roberts before transferring to Fullerton, where he averaged 4.9 points and 4.5 rebounds in 16 games (one start) last season," reports former Packers beat writer Tom Pelissero of 1500ESPN.com in Minnesota. "He hasn't played football since high school but has some impressive physical traits, including a 79-inch wingspan and a 4.7-second 40-yard dash time at 6-foot-5 and 244 pounds." It doesn't say what position Hardy figures to play in football, but I would assume tight end or H-back given his size and the conversion many other basketball players have made from basketball from tight end in the NFL. The report also says Hardy is a free agent. I'm not sure why he wouldn't be eligible for the Draft seeing as he played basketball as recently as this past season.
Former Packers running back Ahman Green was captured on video doing Michael Jackson's "Thriller" dance while attending the NFL's Pro Hollywood Boot Camp at Universal Studio in California. "Twenty NFL players spent four days at Universal Studios learning the ins-and-outs of the movie industry," writes Adam Rank of NFL.com. "Everything from being the gaffers to the grips, the players received a crash course in producing, directing, editing, acting and yes, even dancing." Click the link to be taken to the video.
Because quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been named as a target of the New Orleans Saints bounty program, the story continues to be of interest to Packers fans. A confluence of events occurred on Thursday when audio was released of former Saints coordinator Gregg Williams instructing his players to injure 49ers opponents and making reference to paying them. Meanwhile, the appeals of Saints head coach Sean Payton, assistant head coach (and former Packers assistant) Joe Vitt and general manager Mickey Loomis were heard by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. "Vitt and his lawyer, David Cornwell, met with Goodell for 90 minutes," according to a report by the Associated Press and USA Today. "Cornwell said Vitt understood he had to be held accountable, but they wanted to convey that the coach did not participate in a strategy to injure players."
More on yesterday's bounty news comes from another Associated Press report.
NFL Draft prospect Kelcie McCray, a former teammate of safety M.D. Jennings, is interviewed at JSOnline.
Packer Report has draft features on Kevin Zietler, Chris Anzevino, wide receivers and offense and defensive linemen with athletic families.
The odds that the Packers win next year's Super Bowl have gotten longer since the start of free agency, according to Joe Fortenbaugh of the National Football Post.
Defensive linemen in the NFL Draft are profiled at the Packers official website.

I know the Packers are always looking under every stone for talent, regardless of the landscape of their current roster.. And I know the Packers have looked at, and even invited to camp, basketball players who could project as TEs. So this is just business as usual, but I can't help but wonder is Andrew Quarless' knee reconstruction prognosis is looking even more bleak than originally thought. He's already a question mark to play this year- it could end up being nearly a two-year span of time since his injuring occurred and the point at which he sees the field again- and I wonder if the Packers aren't already looking for that next TE.
Side note, I was in an anti-smoking commercial years ago that featured Ahman Green, In retrospect, he may have been doing the commercial more for in-front-of-camera experience than just as a public service.. Ahman was wearing a gas mask, walking thru a busy restaurant/bar filled with smokers. I was fortunate enough to be a guy who walks directly past Ahman and was told to "Blow smoke right into his face as you walk by." After what seemed like 100 takes, the final cut of the commmercial was post-produced to basically motion-blur everyone but Ahman so you couldn't tell who anyone else was. Bastards! ;)

That's a cool gig though regardless! Have you been in front of the camera since?

No sir, it was a one-time gig, not a career or a hobby :)
I had a friend who was a talent agent for a modeling/acting agency who just needed one more extra to fill a job, so she gave me a call, and I went. After all, she told me it was a spot with Ahman Green! Only other time she tried to cast me in anything was for the original season of "The Amazing Race" television series, but I was working an over-the-road job at the time and was unable to go to the casting call, lol.
