Packers Daily Links: Decision on Collins Won't Affect Draft

According to Ted Thompson, the Packers still haven't made a decision on the future of safety Nick Collins. That and more in today's Daily Links...

Packers general manager Ted Thompson addressed the situation of safety Nick Collins saying that no decision has been made on his future and that Collins' status won't affect how they approach the draft. "We feel like our roster is balanced enough overall," Thompson is quoted as saying by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "We don't feel we have to target a particular position in the draft. That's not what we do, and we won't do it this year." Collins is still seeking opinions from several spinal surgeons, and according to his agent, will meet with the Packers sometime after the Draft.

More on Nick Collins and the Draft comes from the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Packer ReportFox Sports WisconsinESPNMilwaukee.com, Associated Press and the Packers official website.

Other than the comment on Nick Collins, Ted Thompson predictably said little and certainly didn't shed any light into the draft plans of the Packers. Quotes from Thompson are provided by ESPNMilwaukee.com, JSOnline, PackersNews.com and Fox Sports Wisconsin.

NFL Draft prospect Jonathan Massaquoi told Tyler Dunne of the JSOnline that he'd like the Packers to pick him. "Whether it's Green Bay or another team, I'm going to be an elite pass rusher," Massaquoi said. "Hopefully Green Bay takes a chance on me and hopefully I can prove them right up to the standards they're going to set for me." Massaquoi is a mid-round player from Troy who would play outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense. With outside linebacker being a need for Green Bay, he's a name to watch.

The offensive line is today's NFL Draft focus for Bob McGinn of the Journal Sentinel who writes an article on Division II guard Amini Silatolu, has his player rankings and a notes section.

NFL Draft position analysis hits on outside linebacker at the Press-Gazette, offensive line at ESPNMilwaukee.com and defensive line at Fox Sports Wisconsin.

A film study of Alabama linebacker Courtney Upshaw and a Q&A with Boise State safety George Iloka comes courtesy of Tyler Dunne.

Speaking of Tyler Dunne, I was honored to have him ask me to join him for his podcast over at JSOnline. We cover the NFL Draft talking about safeties, running backs, Russell Wilson and the young makeup of the Packers.

The Packers appeared in the "On the Clock" feature on the NFL Network's Path to the Draft.

Massaquoi doesn't lack self confidence that's clear. And Troy has produced Osi and Ware, maybe there's something in the water. May be worth a mid round pick?

Troy isn't far from Panama City, and that's where Girls Gone Wild came from, so the water is probably pretty dirty.
