Packers Daily Links: Clay Matthews to Appeal Fine

The Packers star linebacker is appealing his fine back from Week 1. That and more in today's Daily Links...

Saying that it's coming soon, the star linebacker of the Green Bay Packers plans to fight the league on a Week 1 hit for which he was flagged. "Clay Matthews hasn't given up on that $15,000 that the NFL wants to take from him," said Matthews. "One week after the league fined Matthews for taking down San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick out of bounds, the Green Bay Packers' star outside linebacker is awaiting an appeal." Matthews has said he's never been fined for a non-uniform penalty before.

Guard T.J. Lang showed up on the Packers' injury report on Thursday. "Tightened up a little bit, don’t think it’s anything serious," head coach Mike McCarthy is quoted as saying at PackersNews.com. Lang was listed as practicing on a limited basis. The previous week fellow guard Josh Sitton fought through back soreness, missing some practice time, but played every snap the first two games of the season.

The Packers are facing a situation where they could be very thin in the offensive backfield for Sunday's game. "Don’t look now, but if Eddie Lacy isn’t cleared to practice Friday and misses Sunday’s game at Cincinnati with the concussion he sustained last week against Washington, the Packers could very well face the Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium with only James Starks and rookie Johnathan Franklin active," writes Jason Wilde of ESPNMilwaukee.com.

More on the running back situation comes from JSOnline and the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

Tight end Jermichael Finley spoke positively about his early-season performance on Thursday. "I ain't got no worries right now," Finley is quoted as saying by the Associated Press. "From this point on, it's going to be hard to hit me and bring me down, I promise you that." Through two games, Finley has 11 catches for 121 yards and two touchdowns and has been difficult to tackle, as evidenced by his 27-yard catch and run this past Sunday against Washington.

If they are light at rb I wouldn't mind seeing Cobb running some of those wheel routes from the backfield.
