Packers Daily Links: Bucs Receive Permission to Interview Joe Philbin

Joe Philbin joins Mike Sherman and Tom Clements as candidates to become the next head coach at Tampa Bay. That and more in today's Daily Links...

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have already interviewed former Packers head coach Mike Sherman for their vacant position, and they'll be interviewing quarterbacks coach Tom Clements as well. Now add Joe Philbin to that list. "The Bucs also have received permission to interview Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin," writes Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. Philbin could be a candidate for head coach the Oakland Raiders as well.

Speaking of the Oakland Raiders, the attention on Winston Moss has only intensified now that the Packers have been eliminated from the playoffs. "The Green Bay Packers assistant head coach says he has not been contacted about the Raiders’ head coaching vacancy as of Monday afternoon but would welcome the chance to talk to them," reports Chris Jenkins of the Associated Press. Even if he doesn't get the gig, it's all but a given he'll at least interview for the job. Moss did express satisfaction about coaching in Green Bay in an interview.

Wide receiver Donald Driver met with reporters yesterday amid speculation about his future with the Packers organization. “The thing is, it’s not up to me,” Driver is quoted as saying by Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “If they decide to keep me, then I’ll come back. If not, I guess I’ve got to go somewhere else to play. But that’s always been my goal, to retire here, and it’s going to up to them to make that decision.” The question is if Driver would consider taking a pay cut from the approximately $5 million he's scheduled to make next season. I think if Driver were willing to take a pay cut, the Packers would be willing to have him back. He's established. Tori Gurley and Diondre Borel are not. And I could easily see a situation in which the Packers keep six wide receivers on their roster next season.

Another free agent after this season is defensive back Jarrett Bush, who also spoke about his future with the Packers on Monday. "I love it here," Bush told Paul Imig of Fox Sports Wisocnsin. "I want to be back. I love Green Bay football. I have a house here. I've got my dog here. It's a matter of a phone call." The Packers will likely want Bush back, but how much are they willing to pay? It's possible another team out there would be willing to pay Bush as much, if not more, than the Packers to be their special teams ace and nickel cornerback.

Safety Nick Collins gave a timeframe for a decision on his future. “I want to be able to make my decision before the draft so this organization can make a decision on who they can bring in and who they want to draft,” Collins told Kareem Copeland at PackersNews.com. It really appears to be a toss up whether Collins will return or not. I do not have an inkling either way.

Several media outlets took Monday to look at the deficiencies of the Packers and where they need to improve. Most of the attention of focused on the pass defense and needs at outside linebacker, defensive end and the defensive backfield. "They framed it in all different kinds of ways, but in dissecting the failure of the Green Bay Packers defense this season, its players and coaches kept coming back to the same thing," writes Tom Silverstein of the Journal Sentinel. Pass rush. It's likely to come through the draft.

If Philbin were to leave, would Clements be the obvious choice to take over as OC? Or someone else?

That hail mary was worse than 4th and 26-- esepecially if you count the run play before it. Still very angry about it.
