The numbers are in regarding the new south end zone expansion at Lambeau Field and approximately 7,000 new seats being added. “About 105,000 people were waiting for season tickets before the Packers started selling the new seats,” reports Richard Ryman of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “Aaron Popkey, the Packers’ director of public affairs, said that of the 5,000-plus offered tickets, about 77 percent bought them. He said 1,500 existing ticket holders chose to move to the new south end zone, mostly in level six, which is general seating.” I was rather surprised that only 77 percent of those offered season tickets chose to accept. Perhaps they weren’t offered their desired Green or Gold ticket package, which would influence their decision. But for those who have been on the list for presumably decades, I would have expected the percentage to be higher.
First round draft choice Datone Jones remains unsigned, and Bill Huber of Packer Report explains that the guaranteed money part of the contract is what is likely holding up the process. “That makes the contract signed by (Alec) Ogletree — the player nearest Jones to be signed — a potential sticking point,” writes Huber. “Not only are Ogletree’s first three years guaranteed, but if he’s good enough to stick around for his fourth season, he will receive a $350,000 roster bonus and a $350,000 bonus for showing up to training camp.” With still a month to go until training camp, there’s no reason to be alarmed Jones remains unsigned. This should not, and likely will not, be an issue that forces a holdout.
ESPN’s Jeremy Schaap made a verbal slip up on air Wednesday and said Aaron Rodgers was implicated of murder instead of Aaron Hernandez, an incident outlined at JSOnline. An online video of Schaap’s faux pas “went viral,” prompting a response from Rodgers on Twitter saying, “Not funny ESPN.” With a lack of context, it was difficult to tell whether Rodgers was being glib or he was legitimately angry. Schaap quickly corrected himself on air, which the viral video did not include, which likely only added to the confusion.
