Packers Calendar: OTAs Begin in Green Bay

The Packers can begin Phase 3 of their offseason training program on Tuesday.

The Green Bay Packers don't publish their entire practice schedule—just those that are open to the public—but assuming they took off on Memorial Day, Tuesday would represent the first day the organization is elgible to initiate Phase 3 of their offseason training program.

Although they're still prevented from any contact drills, the Packers are allowed to practice for the first time in a team environment, called Organized Team Activities (OTAs).

Prior to this week, the Packers were limited to primarily strength and conditioning and Individual Position Workouts (IPWs). Beginning Tuesday, they're allowed to take part in 7-on-7, 9-on-7 and full-team 11-on-11 drills.

What's also different this week is that players are permitted to wear helmets for the first time during the offseason, atlhough no pads except protective knee and elbow pads can be worn.

Whereas Phases 1 and 2 of the workout program were restricted to four hours per day, the Packers can now meet for up to six hours per day.

Per the NFL's most recent Collective Bargaining Agreement, teams can hold a maximum of three OTAs each week for the first two weeks of the program.

The Packers will hold one OTA practice open to the public and media per week for the next three weeks, staring on Thursday May 29 at 11:30 a.m. CT at Ray Nitschke Field.

UPDATE: Since publication, NFL.com released an article stating the Packers will conduct their first workout on Wednesday.

I don't get into the OTA's to much. I love Training camp, but OTA's we just don't really learn much about players.

One thing I am interested in finding out though is how the 2nd year players and rookies look.

What 2nd year players look like changed players and might take a big jump in year 2. Again this is very premature because we won't really find out till the pads start going on.
