Packers Calendar: NFLPA Collegiate Bowl Practices on TV

Just like on Wednesday, practices from the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl all-star game will be televised again on Thursday.

Scouts of the Green Bay Packers will be in attendance both there and at the East-West Shrine Game in Florida on Thursday, so fans at home are getting the same opportunity to see future NFL players in a job interview of sorts.

The National team coached by Dick Vermeil will practice from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. CT and then American team under the guidance of coach Denny Green will practice from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. with both sessions on ESPNU.

For fans that like to follow NFL draft prospects, here's three of my favorites at the NFLPA Bowl:

  • South Carolina Quarterback Connor Shaw––As tough and gritty as they come, Shaw fought through injuries for much of his career at South Carolina and still enjoyed a great deal of success. Part of the reason he was injured so often was because he's a good athlete and took off running more than the typical pocket passing quarterback. In the NFL, he'll be running far less often and won't be exposed to as many hits, particularly early in his career when he's expected to be a backup. He's worth developing as a late-round draft choice.
  • Bowling Green Safety Jerry "Boo Boo" Gates––Part of the reason the Falcons had such a good defense and won the MAC conference championship this past season, Gates is a strong safety type that likes to fly around the field and hit anything that moves. He showed how talented he is during Bowling Green's bowl game against Pittsburgh when he intercepted a pass and also returned a kickoff for a touchdown. Gates needs to prove he can be a deep safety that can cover fast and athletic receivers if he's going to make it in the NFL.
  • Boston College outside linebacker Kasim Edebali––A native German, Edebali is a late bloomer. As a defensive end/outside linebacker hybrid, he really came on his senior season, improving from 1.5 sacks in 2012 to 8.5 sacks in 2013 to go along with 68 tackles, 14 for a loss, four forced fumbles and five passes broken up. Edebali is part of the reason the Golden Eagles improved from a 2-10 record a year ago to qualifying for a bowl game this past season. He figures to only improve under the guidance of NFL coaching at the next level.

Shaw, to me could be similar to a Matt Flynn type of QB.
He could be developed into a very good backup QB and fill in when needed. Probably not a full time starter, but with great coaching I could see him being a good player if developed the right way.
