Packers Calendar: Jordy Nelson Votes for NFLPA Executive Director

Eight challengers and incumbent DeMaurice Smith are up for election on Sunday.

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson wraps up a weekend in Hawaii when he takes part in electing a new NFLPA executive vice president on Sunday, according to Jim Trotter of ESPN.com.

Nelson is the Packers' representative on the NFL Players Association, and as such, will take part in the voting that takes place Sunday.

An unusually high number of challengers, eight of them, are up for election against incumbent DeMaurice Smith, who has held the position since 2009.

The eight candidates include former NFL players Robert Griffith, Sean Gilbert, Jason Belser and John Stufflebeam in addition to attorneys Jim Acho, Arthur McAfee and Andrew Smith and player represetative Rob London.

A general sentiment exists that the player's union gave up too many concessions to the owners in the NFL's last collective bargaining agreement, leading to an interest in potential new leadership.

Per Trotter:

The 32 player reps will meet in Maui starting March 13. The reps will listen to presentations from the candidates two days later, and if none receives the minimum 17 votes for election, the candidate or candidates with the fewest votes will be eliminated and another vote will be taken. The process will continue until someone reaches 17 votes.

Team alternates Micah Hyde and Tim Masthay are also reportedly in Hawaii as well.
